SuperKoopaTroopa — An actual shell?

Description Don't you ever wonder about their shells? I mean, usually it looks like sort of a half-shell and the front looking more like some sort of plate. And yet whenever any koopaling does a shell spin, suddenly it turns into a more Koopa-troopa-ish shell? How does that work anyway?

This was just seeing how one of them would look if the shell style was in anyway consistent.

It's one of the series's many mysteries.

YES!!!! i totally agree!!!! on brawl when Bowser does his spin attack what was his chest and belly suddenly become attached to his shell and become a real turtle shell.....

Well, true. Though I felt it was all more... practical in brawl. There's also the issue of Bowser's shell being super-flexible, able to turn into a ball and in NSMBWii, the Koopaling shells half-come off when they crouch and stuff.... although this is trying to make sense in a world where the hills literally have eyes...

I think it's magic. Inconsistencies are sometimes distracting, but they're fun to poke fun at. He looks adorable.

I noticed that too. I think I used to draw the Koopalings with Koopa Troopa shells.

I forgot what Bowser looks like inside his shell in Brawl/Melee.

How, so Bowser somehow squishes his skin in his shell?

It seems the plate covers his shoulder and attaches to his shell.

Mechayoshi [2010-12-18 01:11:42 +0000 UTC]

yeah. Bowser's shell is only a half shell unless he gets inside of it!
That's either a design flaw or something Nintendo didn't think anyone would notice about.

Well, I think the main exception's in the Smash Bros games... but still confusing since it was really flexible.

I never understood why they're designed this way.

I don't think anyone does.... unless the shell animation is just a reskinned/edited koopa troopa shell, in which case it's cutting corners...

Yeah maybe they're just cutting corners

If you go by the fact that they are part turtle, then it kinda make sense, since they pull their arms, legs and heads into their shells, and the part between the stomach and shells are also withdrawn, I'm going by the fact that I think the shells are empty.

Well, that seems the case with bowser in SSBM/B [link] however, with the koopalings in NSMBW, you don't actually see the part between the stomach and shell, but little holes for the arms and legs.

Interesting question. Could be Koopa Magic or a genetic affect for Royalty.

Great job on the drawing.

I wondered that too! When I draw a Misdeed inside their shells, I do it the same way. I don't know how they do that. And on top of that, how would their large hairdos fit inside the shell?
