---LAST MINUTE ENTRY! HA----For Akai's contest...
His name is Gojira Ryujin, or the Dragon God Gojira. He was created as a byproduct when Susanoo, the storm god, and Amaterasu, the sun goddess clashed. The massive release of divine energy turned a regular ryu into a Dragon God.
Gojira Ryujin is a "Kaijuu no Kami", or a Strange Beast of the Spirits. He is one of many that have manifested in Japan. He stands 492 hands tall. From his maw, he fires powerful blasts of ki. These can eradicate entire mountains. He can also manipulate the weather and the element of water. He also soars through the sky using his ki manipulation.
There are other Kaijuu no Kami out in the world...
Mosura - a butterfly servant of Amaterasu. She can use sunlight at her disposal.
Battra - a butterfly servant of Susanoo. He can use forceful wings and water.
Ghydra Daimao - a great demon that rivals Godzilla in power. He controls electricity.
Gamera-no-Genbu - Spawn of Genbu, one of the 4 Guardians.
Rodan-no-Suzaku - a power pheonix. Also a spawn of one of the powerful Guardians.
Shisa-o - a powerful golem created by the mystical Izumi tribe of Okinawa.
Godzilla is considered the kaijuu of equity and balance. He has 288 scales. 144 of them Yin, 144 Yang.

So, yeah. Kind of though I'd take Godzilla back to ancient Japan to to the age of myths and legends. Magic and mysticism...yeah, I can do that too. I'm just not all science.
I've never seen a Ryu/Lung style Godzilla before...so I tried it. I've added some interesting things to this...
Imperial Dragons, the highest ranking there are...have 5 digits. I've given Godzilla 5 digits. Also, if you count the scales on him, there's 144. In total, Godzilla has 288 scales. In asian dragon folklore, 9 is often associated with dragons. It's the highest single digit number. 288 is divisble by 9.
Thanks to Asher Elbein...He helped me change the color on this last minute. It looked horrible before he did so...heh.
And sorry if this is kind of subpar when compared to my other art. It was last minute and the first thing I've drawn in months!

what a VERY cool concept. first, i like the colors you went with. that kind of indigo shade of blue with the yellow. second, i like the horns you gave it. the yellow ones sticking out backwards from the face that curve upwards. reminds me of a chinese dragon's "antlers", and the look of them makes me think of the electrical element. badass.

Does this sound like a good name for a monster i'm creating? Ryu no wani. If can give me a better name i will gladly accept the help.

Avoid the word "Ryu". While I used it, the word is a really cliche name.
I used Ryujin to associate Godzilla with the Dragon King of the Sea in Japanese mythology.
And "wani" means crocodile or shark. Ryu no wani, "Dragon of crocodile/shark" doesnt sound that well when translated over into Japanese.
Gojira Ryujin translate to Dragon-Being Godzilla. (I'm using Ryujin as a title and titles come after names in Japanese. Piccolo Daimao, for example.)

My other suggestion...
Just don't look at the Japanese for inspiration. Look at other cultures around the world. You'll find some interesting stuff.

What really makes this entry is the bio. I really like it. Very well fleshed out. I get the feeling that you were considering something like this long before I even started this contest.

This idea came to mind a few years back. I just never acted upon it.
This was really rushed though. It would look better, artistically speaking, if I didn't start this two days ago, haha. ^_^;;
A kind of mythology inspired Godzilla universe could be done by me in the future. I may flesh some stuff out a little bit more, too. Mosura (No title yet), Gojira Ryujin, and Ghydra Daimao were the first three I came up with.
I was gonna include some mini-sketches of Ghydra Daimao, but I ran outta time. Heh....yes, I basically changed Ghidorah to Hydra with a G...

Well considering that the dra in Ghidorah is basically a suffix that Japanese put on alot of things to basically announce that its a dragon or dragon like, I see nothing wrong with calling Ghidorah (which I've always pronounced Ghee-drah, even though the japanese pronounce it Ghee-dor-rah, the dor is so fast and has a rolled R it basically sounds the same) Ghydra.
I like this concept though.

Well, Ghidrah was the original spelling and name for King Ghidorah.
I called Ghidorah Ghydra for the Hydra relation, heh.
