Description I decided I wanted to give a print of a ballet dancer to a friend who graduated this year. Of course, to do that I needed to take photos of a ballet dancer. Luckily, I have a friend who just happens to be a ballerina, so I set up a shoot with her. It was a lot of fun; I got a couple good shots, and learned a lot. This print was somewhat tricky to get right. I'll probably try to further perfect it later on, even.

I think if I shoot with a dancer again, I'll want to do so in a dance studio; one with a wall completely covered in mirrors. That would be a lot of fun to play around with...

Print info:
f/5.6
Exposure 8 seconds
Contrast 2.5
Arista.EDU Ultra VC fiber 8x10

EDIT: This looks flat, I think because I had to scan the print... what I need to do is get lab scans of all my negatives...

You know what bothers me on this piece and the other copy, the freaking clock, it just seems wrong and out of place.

I need a dance studio.

I always just accepted it's existance in the image... now it'll drive me insane. Thanks Amanda.

That's good in some cases. It would help make you a good photographer.

I was going to call you a mean name for shunning the truth, but I didn't. (Guess what I was going to call you...)

Absolutely beautiful. You captured the movement well, and the contrast is nice. The only things I can really say to improve are these:

1. You said it's a scan, and that's probably why it looks flat, and a bit grainy. If the real print is as smooth as I think it is, it looks MUCH better.

2. A few bits and pieces of her are cut out, and if you ever get the chance to get the whole figure into the photo, brilliant. But still, it's hard to do that, when dancers move so much. You did quite well on this, I'm pleased.

it is always tricky to shoot pictures of dancers cause they can only stay in the same spot for so long. nice job but i dont know the window closests to me is a bit distracting
