Like the Stinkfly redesign I did earlier this week, when designing Gax for UAF I looked to the species' culture/civilian designs for inspiration. The episode Ghost Town came in very handy with giving me a good general feel for what the average Chimera Sui Generis would be like.I know that in the reboot, Gax is the Omnitrix's sample of specifically Vilgax, but I knew if I took that approach in the UAF style, they would have just traced AF Vilgax's model, slapped the watch on the chest, made the eyes green, and called it a day.
Though I did use AF Vilgax's model as reference for frame, I changed the body proportions to be different (kinda using AF's sample definition of Omnitrix aliens being an approximation/prime specimen of the species).
I originally wanted the white part of the costume to be green and black like Azmuth's tunic in UAF, but the white just looked better for the purpose of contrasting itself from the dark blue highlights and the green skin. That-Omnitrix-Guy actually pointed out to me that I unintentionally referenced Ultimate Ben/UAF Ben 10K's costume!

I Love the Reboot Because:
A. Stinkfly looks MUCH Better, especially since he resembles a Kamen Rider(TBH, I never really was a Fan of Stinkfly's Original Design)
B. Gwen isn't as Mean to Ben as she was in the Original series
C. Ben has the EXACT Same Characterization as he did in the Original Series(YES, He was T-H-A-T bratty in the OS; that's NOTHING new; so Stop Complaining about it, Why is it a Problem now, but it wasn't back in 2005?!!)
D. Gax(Seriously, Why did it take a Whole Reboot to Give Ben the Alien form of His Archnemesis)
E. Vilgax is JUST as Serious & as Dark a Villain as he was in the Original Series
F. Ben has his 10-11 Year-old Voice again, from the Original, & in Omniverse(11-year-old Ben AND Albedo, and Ben 23); And Oddly Enough, Dr. Animo has the Same Voice too

I don't want to offense you. But, Omni-Tricked was my favorite episode in Reboot. But there are things you need to know that Stinkfly was ruined, he was a lot humanoid in Reboot rather than being moreΒ insectoidΒ alien. Gwen and Ben does not argue too much like in the Original Series. Max was little stupid, he's not even a Plumber like in the Original Continuity. Galvans (except Azmuth) have orange eyes. However, there are things that has returned. Omnitrix design was same as Original Series. Voice actors (Except Vilgax who was voiced by Yuri Lowenthal) were back. Just saying. I've grown up with the original continuity. If you say something wrong about me... then go ahead!

I'm not a fan of the reboot but it pretty much did something i really wanted... and have Ben AcquiredΒ Chimera Sui Generis altough if i look back it i can also see it working well in omniverse.

Ooh, this is really nice, how it combines the average ChimeranΒ and the Gax we see. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing this design if Ben had to scan new DANA, even if Gax is pretty rad looking.

Gax was honestly such a fun character, and it was such a joy to see Ben just kinda go wild with one of his aliens! Really hope we get to see Ben back with him again.
And thank you!! I tried to kinda take the UAF approach which was either copy Vilgax verbatim, or sort of have an approximation of the species while still using familiar qualities from Vilgax. I figure the Omnitrix already had a Chimeran sample a while back, it's always just been locked.

I myself did my own take on Gax (or at least what an Omnitrix version of a Chimera Sui Generis would look like). And while I detest UAF for their lack of originality when it came to designing members of the same species as Ben's aliens (something Omnitrix did very well), I love this.
Seems a lot of people, regardless of whether they like the reboot or not, love Gax!

and thank you! Half the problem of trying to make ones own UAF designs be accurate to the show but also still fun and appealing to the eye is that if I were totally accurate to UAF's design trends, that would mean taking away all the fun.
its been interesting finding a balance between those three aspects when designing my own UAF stuff, but I think I've managed pretty well!

Yeah, you did pretty well. I notice the abscebe of the cheek pods on Gax, but then again only Myaxx and Vilgax were ever depicted having them (whatever they are. Probably just a design change).

I left them off mine because of the civilian thing, plus I thought adding them would crowd the design a bit too much.
Good UAF designs have had a kind of balance of just enough simplicity, but at the same time, an even amount of applied space of design (for the most part). Basically, nothing is typically too crowded or too blank looking and everything seems pretty even in terms of detail.
