Description
After being advised by Derrick J Wyatt to talk to Steven Choi about their new designs for Swampfire (from "Charmed, I'm Sure"), I shot Mr. Choi and email and he posted the concepts on his blog, here: choiboy-choiboy.blogspot.com/2…I took the liberty of putting the uncolored standing pose to the right of the picture in a colored reference sheet format. Hope you guys like it.
Big thanks to Mr. Choi!!
Enjoy.

Hi Alex! This is called “fair use” where I took an uncolored model sheet from the show and added color to it before the official model was released. I did it of my own volition for fun and didn’t charge anyone for it, because I didn’t draw it. Sit the fuck down.

Actually, this version IS a mutation amidst several other mutations culminating to this final one.
This was explained in the episode.

The Omnitrix has never necessarily HAD to go on the chest, I mean sure it was "for convenience sake" but it's really limiting in terms of designs for costumes or aliens in general. All the best designs have had different Omnitrix placements.
I'll see if I can check yours out.

This is certainly gonna take some getting used to.
Don't get me wrong, it looks freaking awesome, but for years, I've been used to the design of pre-growth spurt Swampfire, especially seeing as no one ever though it'd drastically change like this for good.
And now that you think about it, what does that make Ultimate Swampfire? Is that like a new adolescent form for Methanosians once they evolve, and if so, is there a form beyond THAT once they mature? It's' so cool, but at the same time, SO damn confusing.

You know, I've been thinking about what this means for the ultimate form too and I think that as a result, it too would also mutate. Even if the design hadn't changed for the regular Swampfire, I'm sure they would have made changes to Albedo's Ultimate for it too. They've done a LOT of good designs for the show, I don't think there's been one yet that I don't like. Will just have to wait and see as to what they do next!

Assuming Omniverse doesn't kill the franchise altogether.
It's not to say it doesn't have GOOD things about it, this design included, but for some reason, it just seems WAY too cartoony to have ANY kind of serious tone, which the original managed to balance out fine. Maybe if they were smart, they'd go back to the OS design OR if they want to try their luck, the style for Generator Rex. Seeing Ben's aliens in that art style was ALWAYS a delight for my eyes, personally.

Seems way too cartoony? Hmm, perhaps that's because it's... A CARTOON?!????
Omniverse has done more to improve the franchise as a whole than the previous series managed to mess up on its own. Not just with designs, but with the stories and the writing. Now, that's not to say I didn't like it, but that I had some problems with it.
Ben 10 has never really NEEDED to have a "serious tone" or be "dark, gritty, and brooding" because that's the kind of BS that comic reboots and movie adaptions pull that push people away. In fact, that's the exact reason most of the fans of the original series headed for the hills halfway through Ultimate Alien and most of the reason they were hesitant to return to the franchise for Omniverse; for fear they would mess things up further. And this is coming from personal experience.
Is it fun to see a "realistic interpretation" of fiction? Yeah, but only if it's done right. But there comes a point where you're trying way too hard to make things "dark, realistic, and gritty", so hard in fact, that you forget that the simple concept of fiction is not having to be realistic or make complete sense in a real world setting.
I'm sick of people giving Omniverse crap for being lighter than the last two and making throwbacks to the original or injecting good-hearted humor, even (and sometimes ESPECIALLY) at the expense of the previous shows' mistakes. For some reason, they've been stuck in the "gritty reboot" mindset for so long that they're taken completely aback when anything different is introduced to them.
I don't want people to turn away from Omniverse or think it's ruining an entire franchise just because it's not serious enough. I want people to keep an open mind to it and give it consideration, because I was just as hard of a sceptic of it in the first place because I thought they were turning my "beloved serious action show for young adults" into "some kiddy cartoon with no respect for source material".
I want you to give it a chance, not because of some vendetta against "gritty reboots", but because I actually like the franchise as a whole and don't want you to miss out on some of the cool things going on because "it's not serious enough".

I've actually been watching it since the first episode. Again, there ARE some good things about it. The humor is just fine, the characters are still beloved and I've grown rather found of Rook's dynamic with Ben. My main gripe with it has and always will be the designs. I'm sorry, but in my opinion, they look God awfully horrendous compared to other styles they could have done. Some of the aliens are ok and I'm happy they've switched the Omnitrix symbol to places BESIDES the chest, but with designs for Ben, Kevin and Grampa Max, they are just dead on arrive. The throwback to Kevin's OS look doesn't seem realistic as I don't think he'd be willing to look as he did when he was clinically insane, Ben doesn't have any pupils in his saucers for eyes and Max doesn't even have any eyes! And Gwen's Anodite form.... Oh sweet Jesus. For me, the OS had a good balance between realistic and cartoony that gave it the mixed aged reception that helped keep it alive for longer than anyone could predict. And yes, I do think AF/UA went TOO realistic and not cartoony enough, but with Omniverse, it feels like the exact opposite. I love this series and I hope that it stays alive for as long as it can entertain, but I just don't like the art style. It's just my personal preference. If you like it, good for you. But for me, I'm just hoping they decide to switch it up for the next series.

I've liked a lot of the designs that came of Swampfire. There were a TON of really interesting ones that Mister Choi did for Ultimate Swampfire that are still up on his blog, give them a look.

I have and you're right, there were a lot of awesome designs. Makes me wish that we could get an Upchuck situation where the different character designs from his concept art was used to make other characters. I would love to see some of Swampfire's concept designs used in that way.
