You forget they live in the middle of nowhere, in the woods. They're probably just in their backyard.

As for why Phil's up so late and they're outside--inconclusive. I could come up with a variety of reasons for it, but the truth is I just came up with that title on the spot before posting. While drawing, I was picturing it more around 9 PM, so Idk. Random drawing.

well, thought out title or not, it is inspiring epic tails of sneaking out of the house for night time shenanigans, brotherly bonding, touching moment, intense case scenes, and gripping mysteries. we'll call it 'The Shortman Brothers: The Mystery of the Invisible Flower'!

I love how that's a big deal.

In any case--ALL THE YES. They're the only ones in the house for once, and Zack starts bugging Phil to go out and play with him, but keeps getting shot down. Violently. But then the power goes out, so he finally says yes and they go out and have a bunch of really lame backyard adventures that mostly include Zack being really enthusiastic about a stupid idea and Phil telling him it's a stupid idea then somehow ending up going along with it anyway.
