Description Do schools help build academic unity or build walls between the already capable and the "outsiders" who don't fit inside the system? And does education expand your mind or just bend it to the thoughts and beliefs of others?

I'm pretty convinced, however, that school serves as a boot camp preparation for all the bigotry, bullying, unfairness, injustice, stereotyping, and all the other social and emotional conflicts we're destined to enjoy later in life, as children seem to prove equally capable of these actions as do adults.

Full Lyrics:

The Happiest Days of Our Lives

When we grew up and went to school
There were certain teachers who would
Hurt the children any way they could.
By pouring their derision
Upon anything we did
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids,
But in the town it was well known
When they got home at night, their fat and
Psychopathic wives would thrash them
Within inches of their lives!

Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)

We don't need no education
We don't need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all, it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all, you're just another brick in the wall.

An odd sentiment to carry whilst I attend university, but there you have it. Of course, this is arguing against ineffective education rather than removing education all together.

Character was hand drawn; the background scanned out of the booklet from The Wall album. Everything else added and modified with GIMP 2.0 and Photoshop 7.0 Elements.

Character bio can be found here . Original line art here .

Lyrics and background design are respective property of Pink Floyd.

I havta say, even though I'm still in highschool.
I was thinking about this too. How the school system is.
I'm First Nation (Native) and I've heard the bad side on this.
Because of the stories, it makes me think how traditional my culture use to be.
And I like the song that Pink Floyd made about this.

i really love your shading technique. im not sure what it is thats different to others exactly, has a kind of watery feel to it. i also love her facial expression, its calm, but ever so slightly tinged with some sort of frustration or discomfort. only mildly, as if she can shrug it off at any moment. i really do like it.

Hmm, I think I can explain the watery shading appearance and this one as result of a posterization filter applied with GIMP 2.0, my usual image editor program for touch ups. Since I was layering her over a CG-ish background, I didn't want the grainy base pencil texture creating an unsettling contrast. Plus, I think it just gives it a more finished feel, and by the sounds of it works out alright. ^_^ And yeah, this is plausibly my favorite work as far as the pose and facial rendition goes, as her "you can't make me care" attitude can never fully disguise her inner pain. Thanks for your thoughtful / insightful comment, and glad you enjoy!
