great image; and on the topic, I've always let 'my' cats go out, let them decide when they feel they want or need to be inside, and yes, you lose cats this way. But were they happier while alive? I believe so. And there are hazards inside as well. So it's a judgement call, and you have to live with the results either way.

Our Stormcloud aka Stormy will NOT be kept inside! She was born a semi-feral kitten on the front porch, and we took her and her brother Sunshine aka Sunny in when barely 3 months old. As soon as she was bigger, she would escape every chance she got, which was often because she is soooo fast! But, she always comes back to Sunny and to us. The kitten looks exactly like Stormy!

You know I have been quite traumatized: I lost my first cat, aged 14 months, killed by a car; my second cat, 2 years old, has also been killed by a car; my most beloved cat ever has been poisoned my my neighbor.
So, for the peace of my mind and the life of my cats, I never send them outside anymore. Anyway, my cats are still young and they have never been outside. Some are even too scared to go on the balcony.
Thank you very much for your comment!

Unfortunately, we have to take the heartbreaks occasionally. Many cats will NOT be kept inside; they WILL escape, no matter how careful we are. And, I know it must be very boring for big, strong animals such as Stormy and Joe Boots to be only indoors. They just couldn't bear it. So, we have to take our chances. Right now, JackieAmelia is outdoors; she wouldn't come in last night even to escape the rain. She revels in being outdoors but doesn't wander far anymore, not since she and Blaze, a younger half-sister, went exploring one day and only Jackie returned. She would go out on the sidewalk and seem to be waiting for Blaze. We have cats who have disappeared and never returned. Joe was gone for several months one time; he left with Muffin, who also never returned. We're sure the way he came back that something had happened so that he was lost, perhaps separated from our wonderful, loving Muffin. We never wanted the cats to go out, but, as I said, they will escape if they want to.

Perhaps it is because of our age~me in my 60s and Mom in her 80s~that we see how important outdoors is for some of them. However, we keep the kittens indoors though they started out near-feral. Sabrina, who is white, especially could be an easy target out there. So, we keep them entertained.

Watching doors is very difficult when you're older and can't move quickly. A cat can slip out before you know s/he is around. At least the little ones don't act interested in going back outdoors.

Besides, inside isn't always safe. We've lost kittens in various ways, ones we had rescued. Once, we took in a mite of a kitten, so tiny that she looked more like a mouse. We think Sophie might have stolen her from somewhere; because, when she was outdoors, she often did that: bring a kitten to us that we knew wasn't hers. I raised "Little Miss Mousie-Mole" as we dubbed her till she was 3 months old and were thrilled that she was doing so well. Then, feline distemper went around, taking her along with some outside cats. Our indoor/outdoor cats reach ages of 18-23. Sometimes a former feral doesn't live a very long life; but they were females who had had many litters, and we didn't know for sure how old they were.

We're cat-veterans, and we used to think "Outdoors is baaaad!" (as the lady says in a pilot for a series that didn't make it, "Claws"). We were in a place where, if one escaped, we were able to recapture him. After our "old guys" were gone, we spoke about them, thinking that we should have let them go out to play. It's a tough call. If they're happy indoor cats, that's wonderful. But, think: Some of them want the outdoors, smells, sounds, hunting, climbing, exploring.

I'm disabled, barely able to stand and walk around. If I could, I'd be out there exploring and doing the things I used to, even on a limited scale. I can understand how a cat with a strong, healthy body, curiosity and playfulness might not be happy with inside only.

Sorry for going on to such lengths, but I've discussed this with other pet lovers before. Inside doesn't always keep them safe; and outdoors isn't always deadly though it's chancy. If we had our way, all of our furbabies would be happy little housecats with not a thought of outdoors. What is a cat thinking when it lies in the window and stares out there? I think about it and understand. I would love to be outdoors, too.

You're so welcome! I always know your shots from others instantly! You most definitely have your own unique 'style'. And I swear your cats seem to co-operate with you. (some of the poses!! - I wish ours would do that! My hubby used to sit sometimes for a half hour trying to get good shots of our cats. Not until he'd put the camera down would they do something which would have made for a good picture! LOL I swear they understand and did it deliberately! )
