Description
This illustration is part of an introduction series about not so well known animals. It's a school assignment for my illustration class. The meaning of the series is to teach younger children more about non-cliche animals. Most of the animal books for children are about cats, dogs, horses, dolphins etc. and I want to change that. For this project I left out a lot of details to end up with a more stylized version of the animals used. In my opinion this is more fitting for younger children. I also used a very minimalistic background for each of them so that it's not too distracting.
This is the third one: the malayan tapir. Always on the lookout for fresh fruities....

I like how you've extended the tree outta the background, and your stylisation of this specie works brilliantly.

The next one will probably be the Madagascar giant day gecko ([link] ) or the veiled/Jemen chameleon ([link] ) But I still have to decide which one. An okapi would be cool too, I'll see if I can use it.

This book is going to turn out really beautiful If your interested in publishing it yourself and dont know any way to do that, you can go to the site [link] . A mate of mine got a book printed there for a school assignment and it turned out really nice. Not expensive, either
I believe you can also sell copies of your book there aswell.
Also, if you're after another suggestion, mayhaps the Goblin Shark? Weirdest thing I've ever seen O.o

thanks for the info! I will definately check out the site Always positive when it's not too expensive. Once I had to spend more than 70 EUR (about 109 USD) on a printed version of a school paper. It was only about 30 pages....I was really shocked o_o
yay, goblin shark, indeed a very weird shark, ugly too if you ask me I will add it on my list and see if it would fit in. thanks again!

Wow, that IS expensive. At this site, If I'm understanding correctly, you're looking at about $15 (I think its US?) for a 50 pg , saddle-stitched, full colour book. If you have less pages it's cheaper! Then I guess you just have to pay postage and handling, and your good.

Looks fantastic, especially the tree . Although it seems like the grass on the floor (lets call it floor
) smudged a little with the floor itself...
Do you take recommendations? Because then I would be challenged to find a strange animal (although I am most probably going to say Axolotl), hehe.

I think the grass smudginess is a result of the incompetence of my scanner
In the real drawing the grass is more distinctive than in the scanned version. But anyway, good point
At the moment I'm planning to make a series of 8 strange(r) animals and as luck would have it I still have one open for suggestion an axolotl would be lovely but the only problem is: would the children be able to pronounce the word? For them it would be one hell of a tongue twister ^^ on the other hand they're supposed to learn something new with this book so it shouldn't be much of a problem. Besides I still need an amphibian.
I can't promise I'll use it, cuz it has to fit into my layout for the book. Each page also has a different composition in combination with some text and I can't use too much animals with the same habitat otherwise it would be too monotonous. But I'll think it over
