Aww I feel humbled to hear that! I still have a lot to learn! I'm also trying to be more mindful in the way I study nowadays... I used to focus a lot of time in painting, but it's also important to remember that good drawing skills and knowledge of the fundamentals are essential and will make the paintings better. I try to read stuff on anatomy, color, light, perspective, etc, and then practice those things with some pencil studies. I wish you the best of luck, but hey, you shouldn't be ashamed of your past work! You should be proud, because it's all about the mileage, and it shows you're working hard towards improvement. I still make paintings and drawings that I don't consider good, but at the same time I'm happy because all time spent in art is time well spent. Whether or not the results of your efforts are bad, at least you know you tried and that you're one step closer to what you want.
