Description Edit*********
Flash is dead so this GIF version will have to do:
sushiman0001.deviantart.com/ar…

An updated version of Laughing man Logo www.deviantart.com/deviation/3… , however this one has the glowing effect that the previous version is missing. This version is as close as I can get to the logo used in the Ghost in The Shell series. I resubmitted instead of overwriting the old file because the system requirements for this newer version are insane. I used bitmap caching as much as I could but it didn't seem to make much of a difference, I think adding a filter converts the image from a vector image to a bitmap anyway, so bitmap caching does nothing (I think).
I added a "glow" filter to all the white parts AND every single letter. The huge overhead is due to the letters (See above link for details on letters). Chances are this will lag, so if you want to see it play at full speed you can, by clicking on the above link, however, it does not look as pretty as this version. The above link also has a much more detailed description. I didn't feel like repeating the same information here.
The old version should play with minimal lag on most computers.

Edit*********
Shifted some letters around. The "wh" in the word what and the "g". Computers are faster now so I made the whole thing about 23% bigger. Also scaled the bloom to match the new size.

Could you convert this into a .gif file with a transparent background, so that I can convert it into a TF2/CS:S spray?

Extraordinary! Your work at mimicking The Laughing Man's Logo is incredible! How would you like to work for Section 9? Your skills in art obviously qualify you for this position!

Hey! So I was in love with this animation, so much so that I decided to use a free (Windows-only) program that I found called InstantStorm to convert it to a screensaver file for my own personal use. If you want I can send you the installer file (or you can just make your own)...

I don't use a screensaver, but others have requested this logo as a screensaver. Maybe you could upload the screensaver file up on your dA profile. I'd hate to get more page views for something that wasn't my idea.

Oh okay, sure. I'll make sure you get linked to extensively

You are a genius. I'd never noticed the word duplication past the bill of the hat, but yours definitely in the best on the web, great work.

AMAZING work! How do I download it though? I clicked the download button, and it just opened up the image in a blank tab :-/

Then you did download it. You just have to save the page. However, I assume you don't want to download the .SWF version. Here's the .GIF version: [link]
Try downloading that.

Runnin' fine for me I actually prefer the older version. I don't like the bloom as much.

I gotta say I am impressed by the amount of research you did into this. I never noticed how the original had the words leaping past the hat-brim until you pointed it out, very good! And I could see then just how hard it is to replicate it.

Man, if you could only figure a way to fix that text jitter it would be perfect. I'm wondering if you couldn't find someway to do it by rendering the image in individual frames rather than bothering with tweening each individual letter. That should solve the jitter issue while also making it very easy for anyone with an average computer to see the full effect. But of course that's also a lot of work, and you've done enough

I think I see what you mean. I could try going back, rasterizing the letters, re-grouping them, redoing the masking, and see how that turns out. But in my mind, it should work the way it is now. I can't control how Flash handles letters. Now that I've stopped to think of a workaround, like the one you've suggested, I think I can make this look better. But I'm just too lazy.

Sick man, the wonders of flash.
I was able to re-produce this effect after over 30 frames in Photoshop CS3.
However I used my own logo, and text.
I have an image in my gallery, that is the un-animated version.

I have also perfected and wrote a processing application (program), that uses any camera you can hook up to a computer, to do facial tracking, and overlay this exact animated logo, or any other animated logo I want, to do what the Laughing Man, did in Ghost in the Shell.

Great work!

This is by far the best Laughing Man logo I've seen.

My computer has no trouble viewing it, but you are correct in the fact that the letters are just a bit jumpy. It's hardly noticeable though.

I downloaded it and imported it into Adobe After Effects CS4, attempting to overlay it over video of my face, walking around and whatnot, but the text doesn't cycle.

Any suggestions? I'm a newb at AE but if anyone has any ideas on how to get that to work, let me know.

Hello, I was wondering if you could allow me to use your laughing man logo in videos I made which I would upload on YouTube and maybe some other site(s). I would definitely credit you as the original creator of the particular logo of course.

You can try. To my knowledge no one has been able to use it. I'd appreciate a link if you get it to work.

As far as I can tell, replies should always show up in the Message Center and you can't have e-mails sent to you when something shows up in the Message Center. FAQ #1: What is the Message Centre and how do I use it?
