Code Geass: Akito the Exiled | コードギアス 亡国のアキト
OVA is directed by Kazuki Akane | 赤根 和樹
Original character designs by CLAMP
Background inspired from Accel World and Jormungand
This is my favorite piece so far! it's the first piece that's 100% digital- I've stopped sketching out my work with paper and pencil and converted to doing super rough drafts with my mouse! Also, this Code Geass OVA is amazing and I'm itching to see character development! I hope u enjoy!
Some techniques I tried this time/ mini tutorial:
multiple shadow layers to give a more 3d effect.
Lastly, thanks for all the support! Please fav and comment!

What you should be asking, "Why does this show even exist?". Not to critisize your artwork, its absolutely beautiful, but when I heard they were making a third season of Code Geass, I flipped out with excitement. But then I figureded out that it has nothing to do with Lelouch AT ALL! Which was a big let down for me.

LMAO!!! I'm always open to VENTS and RANTS!!!
I'm still giving this show a chance! I want to see what the next episode brings to the table. It's still to early to dismiss it~

i ahve to agree with you that it is to early to dismiss it, but I personaly don't care for it. If it shows any sign that it might continue the Code Geass series the way I, and every Code Geass fan wants it to continue (with Lelouch returning that is), I will give it a chance.

LOL!!!! maybe his "unexpected" return is the plot twist... highly doubt it..... he's return is fan service and good shows just don't do that.
also I think this series is targeted for an older audience. It's much different from the typical schoo llife and comedy... there is none, hence fans are pissed off. However, I actually like animes that have a darker them/undertone, but that really puts them at risk for "boring."
Honestly, I don't see the CG fans being happy anytime soon....

I to am a fan of dark anime that have hardly any humor. Tust me, I've seen Elfen Lied AND Hellsing Ultimate. But it would be nice for Lelouch to return, but I have to agree with you, it would only be pleasurable to the fans, or as you call it, "fan service". Plus I guess the people who made Code Geass and possibly thought that they could squeeze Lelouch back into the Code Geass universe somehow, but didn't know how to do it or what purpose he would even have. So that is a downer for me and other fans of the show.

Alas, fans are forced to play the waiting game~ I'm impatient and not genius enough to predict how they are going to squeeze Lelouch in - because we all know, they like to keep dead characters - dead...or do they?
Lol i don't usually have a clear message in my artwork, just like Akito over here is just sleeping, not angry or evil... lastly, If you like Hellsing, check one of my older drawings out-> [link]

I love the mood setting in this and the lighting! The detail to the clothes is great too. Wonderful job!

I'm glad you enjoy it, I too- think lighting is key! I was going for an aura filled with ominous, impending danger. Did you feel it at all? Lol~ also thanks for taking the time to look at my work!!

Definitely, the lighting is very admirable! I'm still working with playing around with it in my own art and I really like the effect it has on this piece.
The mood I got was that he was collected and contemplative, possibly preparing for a battle, but wasn't particularly looking forward to it given his expression. Meanwhile, the surroundings, while tentatively calm, have a foreboding aura that something bad is going to happen (the clouds definitely help add that effect as well!). Beautiful work with the shading and shadows as well!

(*^_^*) That's why I like DA! its a endless bountiful source of inspiration and ideas! I'm sure you'll find the right effect on your next piece! what I'm starting to look into is presenting something that is comprehensive, it's hard to match the right colors, with the right composition and right mood. Lastly, I couldn't phrase this artwork better than what you said- I'm not good with words, so I let the colors and form give way!

Thanks! I love dark colors because you can really play with the lighting - in this case the purple moon- I think - adds a punch to the overall picture!

You like Code Geass too? Awesome!(even thought I haven’t seen the ova yet.
I my self did a Code Geass fan art a few days ago but I think I failed at it XD.
Any way this is very well done good to see you’re experimenting more and the character is very well drawn.
For what I read it looks like you already know how to use some shading techniques however I still think you should add more shadows and light also try changing you’re shading techniques instead of using the pen tool try using a brush its true that its harder to control but if you learn how to use it can do some amazing things also you should now that some times adding more black or white wont be equivalent to darker or brighter for example sometimes warm red can add a nice touch to the shading in the skin or sometimes pink can be used to resemble some light in purple etc. Try experimenting with it you will learn some great stuff.
Besides that he’s hand is still looking a bit weird but is not much.
Well you’re doing some great progress keep up the good work.

Heyo! I hope you can check out the OVA on your free time - it definitely floats on the more mature side- yet still captivate their audience! the fight scenes are my favs!
The biggest difference between this piece and my rest --- is that it's 100% digital. usually i do a rough sketch on paper and take a picture then send to computer, and trace over it with photoshop. The picture is usually warped because I don't have a nice flat scanner to get that proper lighting and high resolution on file. Today, I wised up and did a sketch with my mouse and then trace it with photoshop. lo and behold- that way was much more faster- and gave me more freedom to play with the line art - as opposed to confining my creativity to the pencil sketches.
Frankly, I'm quite scared to make shadows with brushes- I agree with you in that it has amazing flexibility, but my hands are just not stable enough to perfect this technique. I wish I had a tablet or something similar- so that I can easily adjust the thickness, speed, and strength of the brush flow. Do you use a mouse? if you do- i'm even more impressed with how you add shadows to your art! hmm as for color of shadows.. I just realized that I only use 100% black or 100% white for my shadows overlay layers...perhaps it's a good time to try adding pink/red to add some zest!!
ahah yeah - hands are still my weakness!! ARGGGG!
ANND like always -thank you for your compliment and critiques!

I use to do the same thing with the scanner because I thought that I wouldn’t be able to draw with a mouse until I discovered that I could XD.
Yes I do use a mouse to draw and paint my work since I don’t have a tablet either XD.(I’m cursed to never have a tablet =S)Don’t let the fact that you don’t have a tablet stop you. I used to do the same and it was holding me back, also don’t worry about you’re hand being stable you haven’t seen how unstable my hands are . The good thing about photo shop is that you can correct any mistakes you make especially if you know how to use layers to you’re advantage for example instead of using an overlay layer use a normal layer and use different colors with low opacity and with smooth edges to make it blend but this is only 1 technique there are many other options just don’t be afraid cause you have a mouse.
I will check out the ova soon end keep improving .
