mm, not really? I mean it's a popular idea, even KAA played with the idea in the alternate universe (MM3 or MM4, I forget which off the top of my head) and I definitely think they have chemistry.

my take on R/T is more that they're star-crossed lovers, that they're a wartime couple. they needed each other during the war, but there was a fair bit of IMHO really unhealthy stuff between them at times (codependency for one, and Rachel trying to force him to become a human nothlit because it's what she wanted) and it wouldn't surprise me, if Rachel had lived, that their relationship was weakened and unhealthy after the war.

whereas Jake and Cassie IMHO had a very healthy relationship, they really complemented each other and lifted the other up, and held each other accountable, helped the other grow. I think they would've helped each other heal after the war and Jake would've been okay instead of completely broken, if their relationship hadn't fallen apart towards the end with distrust and Jake's crumbling state of mind. if they could've forgiven themselves and each other and reconciled, I honestly think they'd've spent the rest of their lives together. not because "oh I ship it so much!" but just my overall observation of their characters.

don't get me wrong, Rachel and Tobias absolutely loved each other. just as much as Jake and Cassie. I actually really like how the series portrayed different kinds of relationships between the two couples. both relationships helped them get through the war as long as they did. hope this doesn't, like, come across as anti R/T because they're awesome. one of the things I love about Animorphs is how very flawed every one of those kids is.

Honestly, I think the only reason anyone fell in love in the series is because of the war. Let's face it, your teenage romances don't always turn out to be your one true love. If not for the war, Jake and Cassie and Rachel and Marco would've dated each other, got bored and then moved on. Thanks to the war, they had to grow up fast.
