Description i've been waiting for this moment so long i dunno what to say. maybe that it's a good reminder of how i fooled u all on april 1st ([link] )

i'm afraid i will be breaking my 'one photo per idea/shoot'-rule. i took so many photos and i honestly feel like there are several good ones, so you'll be seeing more of these. i am hoping that i later realize the weaker links and can narrow them down then... this for me one of my most important photos/shoots. if you have seen japan 86 or in my past life , they were results of this shoot, but the shoot only happened because of this idea. harakiri is a japanese tradition not much in use anymore(or who knows), but i'm not a history person so this is not supposed to be an accurate reflection of the reality, this is my idea, using cliches and symbols around us, and a woman as the subject of course. actually, harakiri means cutting the abdomen open, but so what, she's got her unique style (pun intended). every person is unique, and all that uniqueness disappears when they die. that's just one reflection on the title.

i got the idea for this photo in the night of july 2nd last year, in montreal, canada. i couldn't sleep for hours because i was so excited over it. it did not turn out to be my best photo ever, in fact the original image that i had in my mind didn't really work in real life at all and so i tried a lot of different poses and looks. i kept thinking about this photo and finally set up the shoot in november. my obstacles were finding a proper sword and a kimono. i couldn't wait longer since i knew ^hesitation was the perfect model and i was leaving canada at the end of november. so i got the props i needed and stressed like hell and tried my best. as i said, it's not my best but i'm pretty happy with it.

she's ^hesitation and i am so happy she's such a patient and motivated model.
the sword is ^superkev 's
the kimono is made by Lissa Hill
the fakeblood is artificial, please read more here [link]

Beautiful. And I like the fact that we can't really see her face. I know that's weird, but it makes up focus on the body a little more. her face is beyond the point of compelling.

well I want to thaks wingofwrath for the historical explanation, which I was about to do ^^

anyway, i love the idea, and the contrast between the silver pale kimono and the blood red stain on it. Also, the blood on her mouth kinda reminds me of how geisha put make up on their lips. As for the uniqueness, well, in a way, it is unique since, as wingofwrath said it, women samourai cut their throat and not the abdomen.

all in all, a very beautiful photographs ( the three of them), the lightning is done in a really good way, and the angle at which you took the pictures are just right. Great work !

Awesome picture. I only found one thing wrong with it. When preforming seppuku the blade enters in side ways then drawn across the adomine *intestines* then upwards to the base of the ribs. Then the head is removed. This is just random information that I had to share or it would drive me nuts for the rest of the night. But keep up the awesome photos.

Cheez, I've been circling a similar idea in my head for so long and they are still waiting the right moment as scetches and drawings. I would hate to be a plagiarizer, but if I can't get this itch out of my nerves, this itch that stays there until I've shot the pic (you know), I just gotta do it nevertheless you made it first ;D.

Good pic, maybe the hands are a bit too wide though, and perhaps from another angle? I do like it though, and if this lead you to shoot In my past life, I am very happy indeed!

well, i'm sure someone's done it before me as well, as everything has been done, so don't feel bad about it, just do it, like Nike says (lol). i know the itching feeling, i hope u get it out

and indeed it did, thanks for the feedback.

this is a quite a good portrayal of seppuku, it's got just enough to be slightly shocking, without being gruesome
my only critisism is that women committed seppuku by piercing their heart with a knife
they didn't disembowel themselves as the men did,
still this is a beautiful composition

This is a really unique angle. I don't know too much about photography, but this picture makes me feel different. The angle and feel is tragic to me, I don't know how to put it. All in all, I really like this, the effects you used are so good, I like it alot. Hope you don't mind me favoring it.

It's goddamn graphic. I love especially the starting trickle at her lips. The sword is high enough up that it's entirely possible she's gone and run herself through in such a way that she'll choke to death before the obvious woundage works its bloody magic.

Seppuku!

Being a Japanese person myself, I immediately recognized this as sepuku or harakiri. Awesome photo. Hey, did you also know that when sepuku was performed, women weren't allowed to do it. They had to slice their necks. Thats why I like this photo.

I love all your work! (The other night I finally found the true photographers name behind 'Sprained Minds').
But this definitely this photo in particular. Maybe because of my interest in Japanese culture? I don't know. I just really like how you've put the blood on her lips like lipstick too.
The whole thing is just fantastic.
