Description
i've been waiting for this moment so long i dunno what to say. maybe that it's a good reminder of how i fooled u all on april 1sti'm afraid i will be breaking my 'one photo per idea/shoot'-rule. i took so many photos and i honestly feel like there are several good ones, so you'll be seeing more of these. i am hoping that i later realize the weaker links and can narrow them down then... this for me one of my most important photos/shoots. if you have seen japan 86 or in my past life , they were results of this shoot, but the shoot only happened because of this idea. harakiri is a japanese tradition not much in use anymore(or who knows), but i'm not a history person so this is not supposed to be an accurate reflection of the reality, this is my idea, using cliches and symbols around us, and a woman as the subject of course. actually, harakiri means cutting the abdomen open, but so what, she's got her unique style (pun intended). every person is unique, and all that uniqueness disappears when they die. that's just one reflection on the title.
i got the idea for this photo in the night of july 2nd last year, in montreal, canada. i couldn't sleep for hours because i was so excited over it. it did not turn out to be my best photo ever, in fact the original image that i had in my mind didn't really work in real life at all and so i tried a lot of different poses and looks. i kept thinking about this photo and finally set up the shoot in november. my obstacles were finding a proper sword and a kimono. i couldn't wait longer since i knew ^hesitation was the perfect model and i was leaving canada at the end of november. so i got the props i needed and stressed like hell and tried my best. as i said, it's not my best but i'm pretty happy with it.
she's ^hesitation and i am so happy she's such a patient and motivated model.
the sword is ^superkev 's
the kimono is made by Lissa Hill
the fakeblood is artificial, please read more here [link]

it's good but the blade is not like that..
and even if "...is not supposed to be an accurate reflection of the reality..." why the kimono, the sword and the red fakeblood..?

But, if they are real and are what really heapens, why does the blade is not like she should? (perpendicular to how she is now..)

I'm not a "sword-obssessed people" and I understand all that you explain with a humors sarcasm
I'm just saying that if the sword was cutting from left to ritght instead of bottom to up it would look like more "real"
I'm sorry for my english..

i might be also slightly misunderstanding what you are trying to say...i am not sure what you mean about the blade having to be perpendicular to how she is...

because this is a sort of perception of reality, she's not really dying either. the kimono is made in Canada not in Japan, and she is not really a geisha but a Canadian girl and the whole scene is set up (surprise!). the blade doesn't need to be real, it just represents a blade. there are many of you blade/sword-obssessed people out there, but these discussions with you guys have not led anywhere since we both stick to our view. the blade and photo will both remain as they are.

this reminds me of your "japan86"..? But I think the photo would be better if the girl got a different colour on her robe, a bit darker maybe.

the blood's quite dark... but aside from that its all pretty good... the posture of the body depicts the pain from the "stab"..

I just love the fact that it's the suicide thing for samurai's and that this time it is a women. It's mostly men who perform these rituals (or both, I only know a little about it) And one thing that I love most is just the idea around if she use to be a samurai or a wife of one or what. But there use to be something that if the Samurai failed at something or if he's side of battle lost, they had to kill themselves because of failure. (I'm not completely accurate about this just know a little about it)
Also it's a great pic. Red blood on white silk...awesome! Whoa i might use that line for something...sweet

Because you can tell the knife isn't really inside her and there would not be that much blood by it simply poking her, I think that you should have put blood on the knife and made it appear as thought she were pulling it out of her stomach.
Just a suggestion.

I realize you cant read all the comments you get. But I think you should take your 3 uniqueness shots and combine them into a framed strip or something. They do have a lot of power to them. but they dont hit me as hard as your art usually does. Im not stunned and craving. I like them a lot. but im not feeling love. I think if you put them all in a row together it might look like a movie almost, the gradual effects and shots of it. all the angles. but it looks awesome either way. once again you succeed.

I like the lips.. how' the blood is on it.. I don't know the name of the women but if I'm right there used to be a group of women, whe dressed up like this (and the lips and all) to 'please' men.. but then again I might be wrong.
I really like the shoot, that includes the other pics as well
