"Vanille throws herself onto Fang's back, arms automatically snaking into a familiar grip. She hysterically remembers hot molasses days when she would pester Fang into giving her piggyback rides ('Oof, gotta stop feeding you, kid!') and how the back of the elder's shirt would stick to the front of the younger's top ('No, you sweaty bugger, it's the other way around!') and she always fancied that at that moment they were two bodies wearing the same skin--

She jams the syringe into her partner's neck.

the sun's grown dim

Fang chokes wetly, eyes wide. She takes two stumbling steps, swaying like a drunk. Suddenly, her legs fail her and she drops to her knees, hunched in a half bow. It takes a herculean effort just to stay upright; she begins to slump, her rattling breath catching continuously in her throat. Vanille clings tighter, babbling a desperate mantra through gritted teeth: 'I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry--'

and the sky's turned black

Her thumb stays firm on the plunger, as if release would cause Fang's lifeblood to spray out in protest. She is painfully aware of her friend (dear god, her friend)'s pulse fluttering weakly against her fingers, pounding her with futile little fists. Her hand is numb, but she feels each minuscule beat like bullets to her conscience...

'cos i loved her

In the end, after Fang has finally-- agonizingly-- stopped moving, and world has burnt away, Vanille realizes no one is coming for them. And when Fang wakes with no memory of the proceedings, she leaves her faith in the Maker smoldering with the ashes. She doesn't want this cosmic indifference-- so she stays. And for Fang, she pretends.

and she didn't love back..."

People have been telling me to turn my "Gangs of Gran Pulse" shenanigans into a fanfic/comic, and the above is yet another reason why it's proooobably not happening:

Whoa, craziness. I've heard the general consensus is that Etro de-powered Fang's first Ragnarok, but I think making VANILLE responsible for that is more poignant and amplifies her guilt. Annnd it's more viable in a non-magic AU...

Oh, and sorry for the sloppy art guys, my comp caught a horrendous virus a few weeks ago, and I whipped this up really fast coz I didn't want ya'll to forget me. HA.

Suddenly had this idea to convert FFXIII into a mafia story. Cocoon and Gran Pulse as opposing syndicates= genre fun. >:] Flying bullets! Molotov cocktails! Cigar-chomping! YES SIR GIVE ME MOAR
