Valentine's Day gave me the idea to do a "Star Wars couples" series, because romance in the GFFA seems almost to require a certain amount of hate as well as love.
Ergo, in my head, it's perfect for a love-themed series. Clearly.This is the first one: Jaina Solo and Jagged Fel. I love this pairing because with his calm professionalism, Jag is the perfect foil to Jaina and her hotheaded stubbornness. So here they are. Jag is holding a datapad with flight scores; #1 is "Fel", #2 is "Solo", the rest is gibberish.
So yes, he beat her, which is the reason for her expression. 
The quotes are from Ylesia, by Walter Jon Williams. One of my favourite J/J moments, and one which helped cement Jag into his position as one of my favourite characters.
Media: Photoshop and my tablet.
Time: ~15 hours.
References: Canon pictures for Jaina's Jedi outfit and Jag's uniform, although I changed the colours of both. Jaina's boots are based on Tycho's from the Rogue Squadron comics. The rest - faces, poses etc - are from my imagination.

Jaina's expression made me smile, even more so when I read the description. Very fitting. I also like their poses quite a bit. But why are the colors so flat?

Yeah, see, I tried shading on the other comic-y things I did and it ended up taking me forever, so I tried something simpler. And it still ended up taking me ages.

Best bit has to be Jaina's expression. You did an awesome job on the whole thing, but especially her face

They're one of my favourite couples as well. I had fun with the expressions, so I'm glad you like Jaina's.

Their break-up was the worst part of the Dark Nest travesty... actually, the whole damn set of books was an exercise in ruining characters, but turning Jaina and Jag against each other was just so very wrong. They didn't need that break-up. It didn't serve the overall saga in any way.

Oh, I don't blame you for ranting. At all. I still do it myself at times, so I totally understand. I didn't actually get through DNT... couldn't read those books. They confused me no end.

I'm glad to hear it! And I totally agree. More J/J is always a good thing. I really don't know WHAT canon is doing with them, it all seems so silly... I mean, at this stage everyone knows they'll end up together anyway.

GAH!! GREAT!! I love that you see this pair as I do--the "oil and water"--but shake it up enough and it forms a smooth, coherent emulsion... lol! I love the idea of a series like this: Han and Leia, Luke and Mara, Wedge and Iella--all great subjects, and we can't wait to see more! I adore their expressions--Jag is very calm and matter-of-fact, while Jaina looks interminably annoyed!--perfect for the situation, and so IC for them both!

SO TRUE. I couldn't have put it better. I love these two. And it's great to hear that you like this. Their expressions were a lot of fun to draw; it's one of my favourite things about this style, the fact that it allows you to really play with expressions.
I am really enjoying this series so far -- working on Anakin and Tahiri right now. I don't know if I'll do Han and Leia; I'm leaving them to last, because I've done SO many drawings of them already that it seems fair to give the others a go first!
