Another birthday present, this one from the always-awesome PolManning !We got talking about some stuff, I mentioned that I'm still working on tracking down all three trade collections that make up Steph Brown's short-lived solo run as Batgirl, and am close to finding the second tome of the sacred texts...and I guess that inspired this?
I honestly don't know what's more impressive...the art, or the fact that Pol did this in, like, a day.
Ubergirl would 100% shift into Uberfangirl Overdrive if she ever actually met her favourite Batgirl. Or ANY Batgirl, really...
...next time she meets Batman, she really ought to ask him to introduce them...she's met the dude twice before, I'm amazed his Legion of Sidekicks and Spinoffs never really came up in the conversation...
(apologies, no CYOA today. I was bust with family stuff, birthday parties, Wolfenstein, etc.)

I have managed to collect the three original trades of Steph's Batgirl run, but I also had to pick up some singles and other trades to get the whole run. I'd recommend the Vol 1 and 2 recently released of her run, which includes all 24 original issues (including the one from the Red Robin crossover that was left out originally, plus the Bruce Wayne: The Road Home and Batman Inc special issues that starred Steph!)

I've currently got vol 1 & 2 of the original prints. Both pre-owned, but of reasonable condition. And I...haven't had time to read vol 2 yet.

Ooh, this is perhaps the one Batgirl I DIDN'T know about (no doubt due to her short-lived run). Which...probably counts as a black mark on my superhero knowledge...Β Β

...which two, I wonder? I'm guessing Helena. Most people know her as Huntress, but her super-brief run as Batgirl isn't totally unknown...it was just before Cass Cain appeared!
Alysia, if you've read N52 Batgirl (or Bombshells) you'll probably know. Nell...was actually introduced in Steph's Batgirl run, and in a flashforward sequence Steph saw her as Batgirl in a possible future (and, again, Bombshells).

Well, I'm counting Steph as one of the two, so if we discount her, the only one I didn't know of was Nell (probably because of her introduction during Steph's run). I haven't read Bombshells yet, but I have maintained an interest in the New 52, which is how I know Alysia.
As for Helena, I do know her as Huntress (her most famous role, of course), but a friend who is a lot more knowledgeable about me on DC informed me about her Batgirl stint. And Tiffany, I only learnt about fairly recently. Nell is the only who I was completely unaware of.

You know for the longest time a single issue of her solo series was one of my few excursions out of Vertigo and into mainstream DC. Also that face is either disturbingly delightful or delightfully disturbing.

I have absolutely no idea how early in the run it was. Has she encountered anything Valentine's or magic related? If not then you're not there yet.

That's the one. Pretty darn enjoyable in spite me not knowing anything about her aside from being the second or third Batgirl.

Third, and best...in spite of objectively being the least capable of all the Batgirls...what with her not being a super-genius like Babs, or an untouchableΒ Kung-Fu god like Cass...hell of a fast learner, though. In a year of training with Batman, she was roughly on par with all the other Robins. Batman only fired her because she was too effective, and almost killed Zaasz.
When she first became Batgirl, she took down Scarecrow pretty much completely on her own. Oracle is awesome, but not exactly loads of help when you're drugged up and getting the shit kicked out of you by a scary dude in a mask with syringe-hands and a sickle. Steph beating him, that was all Steph.
Hell, in the New 52, she taught herself to Nightwing-level just by watching YouTube videos of Grayson in action. Didn't have the physical strength or stamina to fight anywhere near as effectively as him,Β but she had the techniques down, and as Batwoman observed, the rest was just physical conditioning and time. In Batman and Robin Eternal, who was the first person to take down one of Mother's Orphan ninjas without practically bleeding to death in the process? Stephanie motherflipping Brown.
Today's lesson: Steph Brown is best Batgirl.
