Also, he did help Kirby and Fumu in the pilot I think...

True
I loved the Kirby Right Back At Ya! (Hoshi no Kaabii) Anime for what it was for it's Humor and poking fun at pop culture references (like the Harry Potter Parody Episode)
but I hated how the Anime made King Dedede into a Complete Jackass Kill-joy Prick which they make him more evil than the games (Although Anime Dedede can be funny at times!),when in reality, in The Games universe,King Dedede is a mis understood Anti Hero which in recent games,it's shown he's more of an Ally coming to respect Kirby when greater evil threats like Dark Matter threaten Dream Land.

Kirby saves him from getting possessed by demons from Supernatural on a daily basis so I don't see any reason why they should still be enemies

Dedede is 'not-so' a bad guy. He just misunderstands it and possession of Dark Matters. But the true thing is that he is quite under a jealousy of Kirby.Β Β
