Description
This is my first ever post! Wooooo!
I've always kind of wanted to make Despicable Me related art, and this was an idea that I've had floating (pardon the pun) in my head for a while now. Hope you like it
Oh, and yeah, I'm gonna write stories to accompany a lot of my images. Here's my first one.
Edith’s eyes were glued to the moon-illuminated window, scanning the distant stars glowing across the blackened night sky. She was silent; lost deep within her own imagination. She could’ve sat there all night, admiring the mystery of the space, if it wasn’t for the interrupting sound of her bedroom door opening.
“Alright, gurls...” Gru announced as he entered the room, his redhead spouse right beside him. “Time for bed.”
“Awww!” Agnes cried. Her attention diverted from their doll house, in favor of handing her parents a puppy-dog pout. “Can we pleaseeee have five more minutes?”
“We’ve already given you guys a little extra time.” Lucy stated, smiling gently at the child. Agnes’s little eyes darted to the clock, where indeed, it was fifteen minutes past their scheduled bedtime. “You’ll be like a zombie tomorrow if you don’t get some sleep.”
The youngest sighed, rising to her feet to trudge towards her bed. Barely paying attention, Margo also stood from her seat and slumped atop her mattress, her gaze entrapped by the smart phone in her hand. The parents went to each bed, offering each of their children an endearing goodnight, as well as a loving hug and kiss. But, when Gru got Edith’s bed, the nine-year-old quickly arched her gaze up to question her father.
“Hey, dad…” She began. “What was it like in space?”
“In space? Oh, it was very weird.” He kneeled to the child’s level, resting his elbows on the side of her bomb bed. “Not having de gravity is hard to get used to. Yoo are just floating all around de place uncontrollably.”
Edith grinned, glancing out of the window again for a short moment. “I wish I could go into space.”
“Ehhh, well…who knows. If me and Doctor Nefario work on it, then maybe that wish can come true.” Gru’s reply made the tomboy’s eyes glisten with hope, her smile growing tenfold. Leaning forward, he gave her a hug and kiss, returning the smile. “Goodnight, kitten. I love yoo.”
“Love you, too.”
Once Gru and Lucy left the room, Edith tossed over beneath her blanket, her imagination running wild. Having a dad like Felonious Gru was just the best! Any dream, any desire she could conceive, was very possible with a former super-villain as a father and an expert scientist as his assistant. She closed her eyes, thinking of all the wonders the universe was holding in its deep dark depths…
It was all those amazing thoughts that drifted her into sleep.
Darkness. She could see nothing but a never-ending darkness. Of course, her eyes were still shut, but opening them didn’t seem to solve that. Her eyes were still met by a landscape of pure black. There was nothing around here. It was like she was falling, yet there was no force to carry her down.
Safe to say, she’d never felt like this in her entire life.
Edith looked down. Nothing.
Edith looked up. Nothing.
Edith looked to her right and left. Something…
A large glow was illuminating from behind her, slightly seeping into her vision as she looked around. Using her arms to swim through the empty air, she turned her entire body around, to be met with…the absolute most wondrous thing she’d ever seen.
It was a huge white planet, highly resembling the moon in its appearance. The only way she could discern between the actual moon and this massive chalk-colored body, was the smaller, brown colored planet that orbited it. Thin clouds graced the surface. It was akin to something out of a high-budgeted sci-fi movie.
Huge glowing pins of light shone in the distance, accompanied by an army of shooting stars. It helped to fully illuminate the vast plain of space behind it. If they weren’t there, it would likely be as dark as the emptiness currently stood behind her. Her eyes shone as bright as the planet itself, pupils darting to examine every inch of the beautiful sight.
She never thought, in her entire life, that she’d something as extraordinary as this. Another planet, different from her own. Was there life on it? An alien race, perhaps? Were they friendly? Had they invented massive, galactic laser weapons? Part of her wanted to know, yet another part was content at just…looking. Admiring.
An indiscernible amount of time passed. Eventually, when she truly realized that she was literally FLOATING free through space, a grin invaded her expression. Thrusting her arms forward, she cannon-balled through the gravity deficient environment, giggling as she lost all control of her movement.
Placing her arms behind her head, she allowed herself to gently glide away. Glancing backwards to once again look at the planet, she smiled to herself, never wanting to leave this freaking awesome universe.
“Cool…” She muttered beneath her breath.
Eyes opening, Edith was met by the yellow glow of the morning sun, shining through the window and filling her room with light. She blinked, rolling over to lay on her back. She stared at the ceiling, memories of the dream she just experienced coming to her at pace.
Woah. That was insane. Never before were any of her dreams as vivid as that one.
Rising from her bed, the girl slid into her white slippers and headed downstairs, hungry for whatever breakfast Gru was preparing in the kitchen. The smell hit her nose swiftly. Pancakes again? Awesome!
Margo and Agnes had awoken well before her, as was usually the case. She was a much heavier sleeper than her siblings. With dreams like her most recent one, she considered that a benefit. Wandering into the room, she was met with warm greetings from her family, the likes of which she delightedly returned.
The moment she climbed up to take a seat at the table, Gru wandered over, placing her plate of breakfast in front of her. Edith’s attention was, unsurprisingly, instantly stolen by the food, but before she could dig in, her father asked a question that soon snatched such attention back.
“Sleep well?”
Edith glanced away. Thinking back for a moment, she gave her dad one of the firmest smiles she’d ever donned.
“Yeah. Really well.”
