Sokka's tribute to "The Boiling Rock"...he knows Mai's awesomeness.Actually, his art skills might have slacked off a bit...his picture might have been better than my Sokka-style pics...but Mai looks less mannish, so I suppose that's what matters.
There are probably a lot of questions you want to ask about this...Sokka has an explanation for everything, though.
What's funny is that these pictures are going to be historical references in the future. Documentations of what happened in the past. Everyone will know how Prince Zuko bawled his eyes out when faced with death at the Boiling Rock prison...
And I love milking the bit where Sokka gives that "hi" to Ty Lee in the drill for all it's worth....hehehe.

MY picture.
If you're wondering "What HAPPENED to Sokka's HEAD," that was me trying to be bold with a complicated character. I referenced some of rufftoon's sketches...and it was a bit of a disaster. Zuko's face got messed up, too.
But I had the strangest thrill as I drew him. Or rather, his outfit...it's been SO LONG since I've drawn him in the teashop garb, but it's SO FAMILIAR...the colors, the stripes, everything. It's just...yeah. And it doesn't exactly boost the manliness of his defense.
Suki's outfit is fun to draw. Complicated. But fun. And her face didn't turn out THAT bad...I think. Mai was probably (for once) the best part of the picture.
Things I'm proud of:
1. Mai's hand holding the papers.
2. Sokka's HANDS.
3. Suki's outfit.
4. Mai kicking the guard's butt.
5. The sharks.
Things that need work:
1. Angles.
2. Shading. Goodness, I messed up.
3. Zuko's head.
4. Suki's hands.
All of this comes on the euphoria of Conan O'Brien referencing Avatar during a skit...

He did....they captured him, after all, and he would have lost it.
Mai could have kept it warm for him, though, I guess...used it well...
But he didn't bring it, and was thus able to use it to full effect on Ember Island.

i wouldn't exactly say it shows Mai's stablity ... i think it shows that she's more in control (which is SIMILAR to stability but not quite) ... i know it's a nit-picky thing to say but it's true ... she's fighting to protect the very existance of her one true love ... i know that I would be hard pressed to control my emotions enough for that kind of restraint ... but then Mai has also had a lot more trang than i have ... so she's got more super cool avatar moves to use than i do
