Description
After working on and off for over a year, I finally finished Warphammer's commission.
This will be my last commission done only in colored pencils, due to the time it takes and the risk of burnout (I started this before I got my Prisma markers, which take far less time and hassle to color images). Warp's char is a broadwing hawk; the dragon is just a special symbol to him, which I added in an egg-shaped, yin-yang pose. Please don't tell me that I messed-up on the hawk's markings, his anatomy or the jessies, or that the background looks flat and undetailed, because this pic is supposed to be stylized and not perfectly true-to-life. (I wanted the contrast of detailed characters set against a simple background.) Anyway, I deeply appreciate how patient and kind Warp has been while waiting for this, and I hope he likes how it turned out. 
(BTW, the colors are MUCH more vivid IRL, the details more clear, and the original is quite large--at least for my usual work.)Detail shot: [link]

Lol, it took me forever (lots of layers and burnishing involved)...But now that I have my markers, I mix the two medias and can color something like this in one month as opposed to several.

How in cocky-doody do you get the pencil to be THAT smooth!??! That sunset/sunrise is mind boggeling!??! Do you use prisma pencils? What's your secret?

I use light strokes, gradually pressing harder as I add more and more layers of them, then use even more layers of burnishing, adding back any faded details at the end, if needed. I use a mix of many different types of pencils: Prisma, Derwent, Caran D'Ache, Start Coloring, Pedigree, Empire and even Crayola...just whatever I've gathered over the years. Pencil coloring is a long, complicated process that takes me ages to do, which is why this is my last such commission. I could have colored this same pic in one-third of the time using a mix of markers and pencils, as I do now (but I didn't have my markers back when I started this).

This is gorgeous - I can just see the time and effort that you put into this. It's an amazing piece of art, and hard to look away from. Very pleasing to the eye, as someone else said. All the details..the poses..everything! I can't even begin to find the right words for how awesome it is.

the transitions in the colours are so smooth, they look gradient-like...but softer...
it's flowy (like...the shape of the hawk's feathers or the loops in the dragon...) but the patterns are almost geometrical (the seperation in feathers and scales, the waves...)

This is just.. gorgeous. The colourscheme is completely lovely, as is the pose of the two critters - I like the hawk's the best, the swirly pose of the dragon is totally awesome as well, but I simply adore how you drew the hawk's wings and tail - such an awesome angle and movement! Not to mention the detail! All the feathers and scales at the bird and dragon.. *gasps*
Also the colourscheme, as I already mentioned but which can be repeated many times, is totally adorable. The colours works so well together, are vivid and itneresting, very pleasant to look at, gentle to the eye. REALLY great work on this, Swandog
