Description
Hello,I have recently developed an intense interest in matte paintings (a form of digital art which involves photomanips, brushworking, some 3d components and everything, in fact , matte painting is what makes movies like LOTR look awesome).
So, this one,
"Taj in the Indian Summer"
Taj Mahal is a monument built by an Indian King Shah Jahan as a memorial for his beloved wife Mumtaz who died prematurely. Though the Taj looks awesome, made totally out of white marble, and it sits in the shore of the majestic Yamuna river, its construction was pure controversy.
Shah Jahan is said to have cut off the hands of all workers involved in the construction of Taj so as to prevent them building something as beautiful as it again.
Then, the Shah Jahan plundered the empire's resources and treasury, just to build this Tomb of Mumtaz, other wise known as 'Taj Mahal'.
Then, ofcourse he was overthrown and then was locked up in a huge tower till he died.
History is fascinating isnt it!!!
Currently, the Taj's white marble is turning yellow due to slow acid attack from industrial fumes
Even today, Taj , on full-moon nights, is allowed to illuminate only in moonlight. . .awesome isnt it? Rumors exist Ghost of Mumtaz lingers there
Photos from my family album, (Taj, Agra, near Delhi, North India , 2004)
Scenery , rights free stock
And about the title,
Taj before the tempest,
summer tempests are common in India.. . . a sunny afternoon, has a climax in a thunderous evening.. . blissful, . . provided you are indoors

βThe attitude is we live and let live. This is actually an amazing change in values in a rather short time and it's an example of freedom from religion.β
βThe modern picture of the artist began to form: The poor, but free spirit, plebeian but aspiring only to be classless, to cut himself forever free from the bonds
of the greedy bourgeoisie, to be whatever the fat burghers feared most, to cross the line wherever they drew it, to look at the world in a way they couldn't see,
to be high, live low, stay young forever -- in short, to be the bohemian.β Thomas Wolfe

it's cool to see a different perspective of the taj mahal than the one you usually see in photographs. The colors are so natural and beautiful.

There's some special quality in this picture that I can't quite seem to grasp . . . what a mystery. Perhaps it's in the coloring . . . there does seem like there's quite a taut tension between peace and tempest in this moment that somehow ends up being restful at the same time that it indicates the arrival of something serious very soon . . . makes me wish to enjoy the time of respite left, I suppose. Very appropriate title. And thanks for the history lesson.

That really is beautiful. Its a shame that the acid is attacking it? Is there anything that could be done like a protective sealer or anything? to help protect the beauty. Here in the US we have some monuments and statues like the statue of libert in New York. Thats made from copper and with acid rain and other pollutents it is turning he copper a petina (green colorl) some like it others don't.

yeah actually in the 60s to the 1980s, people didnt know that atmospheric fumes of acid could attack monuments and everyone were wondering why the marble monument was turning yellow... .
I think they got better emission guidelines for industries now, which has atleast reduced the rate of yellowing. . ..
and ofcourse, periodic scrubbing helps

at least the guidelines will help it would be a shame to have something as beautiful be tarnished yellow or even destroyed.

ah.... this is beautiful....
I too love the history of so many different places... some of it shameful most if it facsinating.
I watched a program on the Taj Mahal a while ago, I did know it was a monument, hadn't heard the part about the workers hands, or the ghost, though neither thing would surprise me.
It is just sad that places like that are so difficult and expensive to maintain.
