Description Here's to Shelob the cat face spider.
They live only a season and die after they lay their eggs.
Completely harmless to humans, timid, and well....its the first spider I'd ever call cute.
I got to hold it and as it crawled timidly across my hand she would pause, give her abdomen a little shake as she lay down an anchor line so she wouldn't fall and then commence her little stroll. Cutest thing I've ever seen a spider do, do a booty jig. XD

Oh, I'm sure every one has felt their skin tingle and maybe even their nerves tingle when something creeped them out. But when that spider first crawled onto my hand (the hand of an aracniphobe) I felt my BONES tingle. Weirdest sensation EVER!

She got huge and then one day she left behind two little sacks of eggs and disappeared. We were very sad to see her go, but she sure ate well and we had fun holding her. As scared of spiders as I am, I'm glad I held her before she died.
*sniffle*

Yeah I know it looks horrid but she won me over as she crawled all over me without harming me and with her booty jigs.

that 'booty jig' was the spiders release of sharp pointed hair into the air as a defence against you....it was trying to attack without provoking you

No, it was laying down webbing. Cat face spiders are completely harmless, in fact their jaws are so soft they couldn't even break the skin if they tried to bite you. But the only time they would even attempt that is if they were pressed up against the skin or if you shoved your finger in their mouth. (My dad knows this from experience)

Lulzy, I don't blame him . . . I think I would have done the same thing if I knew that the spider wasn't poisonous.

My curiosity needs to be satisfied O.o

If it does manage to bite you the most damage is the same as a bee sting...provided your not allergic.

Oooh, she's adorable! I used to catch pumpkin spiders all the time and let them crawl all over to scare people before placing them back. This little cutie is huge, though! The biggest spider I've ever held had a butt about as big as my thumbnail ;A;

I like spiders and all animals in general. But I also respect them. If I donk know if a spider is harmless for me, I prefer not to touch it. Watching it is fine, as well as taking photos and drawing them.

By the way, you have a very hairy arm

I would never hold that. I was carrying furniture and I saw a little tiny spider on my arm. I dropped the chair and hit my arm.... I was paranoid about spiders for the rest of the day.. it wasn't pretty.

I dislike dead spiders for some reason, when they're alive it's really awsome to see them crawl around and stuff.

The only cute spider I think. Except for maybe the really fuzzy little black ones that look like they're made of black velvet.

Swashbookler In reply to Wakerra [2011-09-05 14:16:06 +0000 UTC]

It took a LOT of will power, my sisters in law wouldn't do it.
But I hope they'll hatch, that would be fun.
