I do see your point- but I think it was a bad move on dA's part.
I seriously understand why they increased the prices... A website that holds MANY images and lots of memory for free... but I think they should have known that members would have disliked it and 'not buy premium' anymore BECAUSE the price went down.

I personally think if dA turns back and changes it back- people will begin to buy pm more... But this is also a problem with the staff giving features that- we really don't need. It's mostly a problem with the members, not really the increased prices itself.

I think it's a pretty logical move, considering Deviantart has been struggling lately. Again, I don't think changing it back to the way it was will result in new premium subscribers. I still wouldn't buy it if that was the case. 

I think the solution is to make more incentive for getting premium to begin with, as most of the features and perks are pretty useless. Like if there was a cap to how many deviations one could submit in a day, premium members' cap would be higher for example. I know that's not how DA operates per se (though a cap would help in keeping data usage down). Regardless, I think they can come up with better perks for their premium packages; more members would commit to buy if the features were actually helpful and beneficial to them.

There have been some features that I was interested in trying out, such as 'way back' searches, but there needs to be more I think. 

I think the 'Core' rebranding is just a simple way to make its users think that it is something new. They couldn't just jack up the prices without doing so, the users would probably be even more mad if I had to guess. It is ugly I'll admit, though not as ugly as their new logo, haha.

The core thing is really getting out of hand now, some admins saying they're almost broke-
some admins saying dA will stay...

We don't need to 'fight back', the staff and the community need to work together to find a better way to provide funds for the site because in case you didn't know, they're in financial trouble. A thriving company doesn't let half of their staff go.

They're not ripping us off, they're trying to run a website that is probably very expensive to host and maintain. And the basic features of dA are free, they aren't forcing you to buy anything from them.

Now, running a website costs money, so unless you want them to make us the 'product' and use our personal info to make a profit the way Facebook and other social sites do [the only reason that they're free for us], they're gonna need to get money directly from the community.

And I think that the way they're trying to do that is flawed. In my opinion, instead of offering one premium 'package' with all premium features for a high price, they should offer different packages / reward tiers and/or sell individual premium [or core] features such as disabling ads, making polls, using journal skins, etc.

In any case, there needs to be more transparency from the staff [not to 'expose' them, but so we can understand their situation- most of the money that we pay the site goes right back into it according to Spyed], and one hell of a lot more patience from the community. We can't jump to their throats the minute they do something questionable, but try to understand and work out solutions. And no, 'making everything stay the same' isn't a realistic option in the Internet, which is, again, in case you haven't noticed, in a state of permanent change.

TL;DR: Staff is in financial trouble and needed to do something about it even if the solution they came up with sucks. Also, they have PR issues, but they're not evil money-grabbers
