Lookie here! A full illustration! This one features younger Celestia, Luna, Discord, and uncorrupt Sombra, and, you guessed it, an uncorrupt Chrysalis.

This one took me literally a month to do, mostly because of there being five characters, designing one of them, and then, of course, school and other stuff on top of it all. But, I am so proud of how it turned out (you know, despite the fact that Celestia and Luna's wings and flanks should be able to be seen from this angle, but ya know what it's too late to turn back now). I kept it as simplistic as possible, so I kept things relatively flat and minimal, the fanciest thing being the gradient used in Chrysalis' mane.

I've had a headcanon for the longest time that once upon a time, practically eons ago, Celestia, Luna, Discord, Sombra, and Chrysalis grew from being allies to a group of best friends. I've had years to figure out their story and history with one another and I honestly adore it. Also, important note - I do not follow/keep up with the comics, so know that this is purely an AU/headcanon I've created with what I've been given by the show.

When Equestria established the alicorns, the most powerful equines in the land, to serve as their ruling monarchs, the royals proceeded to do what any other nation would do and find a way to make allies. As young princesses, Celestia and Luna were often sent off to summits and meetings with other rulers and leaders, not only to serve their people, but also to gain experience if they were to one day take the thrones and succeed their parents. The first ruler they met was King Sombra of the Crystal Empire.

The Crystal Empire, as beautiful and glorious as its' name, was also a nation of immense military power, a creator of impeccable technology, and a nurturer of incredible power sources, as well as a master in defenses against almost any kind of adversary ranging from the harsh weathers of the Frozen North to armadas of Dragons. The Empire had their king to thank for its' wonderful reputation. Kind Sombra was a young king - a very young king. At only 18-years-old, the regal unicorn stallion had become a military mastermind, a warrior with the power to instill uncertainty and doubt into the minds of even the mightiest of armies, yet also lead his empire with a very humble grace and built a strong backbone in his people. To make allies with a strong nation like the Crystal Empire that was lead by an equally-strong king like Sombra would be not only a useful asset, but a smart one. The princesses and king got along wonderfully, though whether if it be just simple pleasantries or their young ages, no one could really say for sure, and the Royal Sisters were proud to come home after the summit with the news of a successful alliance. Some time later, an accidental connection was made with the Draconequines.

The Draconequus species was an enigma to most creatures in the world. They were illustrious beings of unknown powers and, while happy and flourishing wonderfully, normally kept to themselves. So when Discord, the infamous Lord of Chaos, suddenly showed up at an international summit of world leaders, no one was more surprised than Equestria's royals. The first to approach him was Celestia, and in doing so, she made a surprisingly welcome friend in the strange creature. The two's friendship expanded into an almost accidental alliance. With the Draconequines supporting Equestria, they will always have an element of surprise up their sleeve, and with Equestria backing the Draconequines, they will have a backbone of support should something go awry. Some time after that international summit of world leaders, the Royal Sisters also happened to meet Calista, the princess of the Illusion Colony.

Before she was Queen Chrysalis of the Changelings, she was Princess Calista of the Illusion Colony. Like the name implies, the Illusions were shapeshifters and artisans of great skill, tribal and hunter-like in their culture, yet still retaining a beautifully elegant presence and had a strong sense of empathy with anyone and everyone they met. They lived off the land, though what they hunted for was more than just food - it was the love and happiness that came from the hunt, from the food, and from each other. By sharing their affections, weather familial, platonic, or romantic, the Illusion Colony prospered and almost always seemed to live in such a gilded age. Calista was a very confident, extroverted, and immensely sweet creature, moving with a strong grace and powerful gentleness - and was undoubtedly beautiful to boot. The young princess seemed to glow with all of the love she carried for herself, her people, and everyone around her, and that made her a very alluring creature. She made very easy friends with the sisters, and a wonderful alliance was born between the two nations.

In some way or another, all five young rulers came together to solve a spreading epidemic and slow down the development and consequences of an impending war. By the end of it all, their bond grew stronger, evolving from one between leaders to one between creatures. Their visits were no longer just about negotiations and formal events - they were outings, bonding moments, and sometimes just a nice surprise. For years to come, the fice creatures grow together - not only as leaders, but as friends.
