Description

So, a few people were asking for a continuation of this short story I made a while back. I'm glad people thought it was good enough to warrant a bit more of the tale, and here ya go. Again, you don't have to read it if you don't want to... it's rather long. XD

When she fled from her mountainous city far East of these forsaken folds of sand, the royal child was unaware she would come to witness the death and suffering of a kind she’d never known. Fixated on his consuming stare, she dared to take a few trembling steps closer to his lifeless hand at the cliffs edge.
“Who did this t-to you?” The young woman asked, this time stronger than before.
The giant felt his chest burn as she drew nearer, straining against the binds both nervously and irately.

“Haven’t your people done enough,” he coughed, “to me? Now they send a… princess to openly insult me while I give up my ghost… go on, then. Ruin the comfort of death with your presence.”
“What?...” Her crown, yes, she had forgotten to dispose of it after she had escaped the city, having been taken by the excitement of freedom from the thick stone walls. What did it matter now, with that prison far behind her?

And exactly what crime had he committed to be left for dead under the sweltering arms of the sun? He could’ve done horrible things, but… was this really the right way to make him atone? Perhaps this was unjustly done; at least, that was what she wanted to believe.

After he settled himself again, the compelled human girl proceeded to take another few steps toward him, one hand up as a gesture of stillness in her approach. “Don’t be scared. I’ll undo your constraints if you can just steady yourself for me.” She gently pushed, soon reaching the edge of the cliff.
The grand being couldn’t help but scoff at the statement, tightening up his hands into vice-like fists to reject her from touching him. “Scared? Do I look scared to you? I simply rather not have another one of your kind touching me.” He hatefully shot, becoming rather breathy from tire. “Unfurl your hand, or physical contact with me will be the least of your problems in the next day or so.” A demanding woman returned in stern haste.

His deep glare quickly vanished as the unexpected retort struck him.
Jaw slack and eyes blinking in surprise, the boy unconsciously let his hands loosen from their coiled state, lazily strung back but still close enough for the humans reach. What better opportunity to haul herself onto the speechless mountain then when he was stunned? “How quickly I get this done will depend on how well you cooperate. So…” Keeping balance, she leaned out to snatch his index finger, now bridging the gap.

He watched in thoughtful silence, resisting the temptation of jolting his hand as the little damsel cautiously scaled the leathery balance beam of his finger tips. Of course, far be it from him to pass up the chance to get out of that condemned place. She made her way to his wrist, looking down at the slant of his forearm, then the silver collar wrapped around his neck.
“Lean to me, I’ll hop over to your shoulder quicker that way and get that thing off first.” She explained in full readiness.

“Hmph.” He took a moment to vent out his distress before complying with her instructions and pulling his body to the right. Now they were eye to eye, as close as they could be without pushing away from one another in awkward reflex. The dark crimson color in his watchful eyes so fittingly matched the sinister attitude he displayed; her heart couldn’t take looking at it a moment longer, instead jumping down to the surface of his shoulder to avoid it.
One step in the direction of the collar and she slipped, losing her delicate hold on balance while launching forward to frantically grab hold of the neck bind. The abrupt movement made toward his face brought the giant to flinch left.

“Ack!” He exclaimed in feeling her small form press against his neck.
“I-I’m sorry, hard to avoid a bead of sweat up here!” Was her only response, made with a hint of humor that only a near death experience could bring out of her. The giant, however, was far from amused by this. “Just… keep… moving. The lock mechanism is on the opposite side of you.” He growled with eyes shut tight. Around his neck she carefully went, choosing the back of his neck to work her way to his other shoulder instead of his front… where she feared his mouth. His bright unkempt hair felt like fire as she clenched small tufts to use as a ‘railing’, swaying against her body like white silk.
“Do you have somewhere you can go after all this is done? Like a relative’s home or something?” She felt obligated to inquire.
He didn’t answer, as he was much too busy trying to keep down his goose bumps toward the tiny human scurrying across the vulnerable back of his neck and to his right shoulder. Finally, the searing neck harness would be removed.

The princess was unfamiliar with this kind of binding, or any for that matter, but this wall of metal had a slot in the shape of a hand, centered by fashioned bars of steel. “Put your hand in the thing and turn it left.” The young man mumbled patiently, waiting with a bowed head. She slid down to his collar bone to use as steady flooring in getting to the hand lock.
“Okay,” she began while pushing her open palm into the imprint, “this might hurt when it comes off.”

The slate of the lock made a swift thrust inward, and then turned with the human’s hand. They could hear a quiet symphony of old cogs twisting under the collars surface, till at last, the locks snapped back to separate the once conjoined brace.

His eyes opened immediately once feeling the whisk of air brush his neck again, giving him more than enough reason to flex his shoulders and shove the shackle off completely.
