Description
Robots and their damn hands. There is a reason most people opt for the pinchy-claw/buzz saw option. We're four years into this comic, and I'm still not sure what I want Robo's hands to look like. The mecha nerd in me wants them to be these super precise, highly detailed, ultra-rad mits. But the cartoonist in me can only stand that for about three seconds before the stiffness and rigidity of inflexible robot hands drives me nuts.
As a result, Atomic Robo could very well be in the running for the"most inconsistently rendered grasping devices in comic books" award. (Is their an Eisner category for that? I'd really like an Eisner. Just sayin'.)
The compromise that I keep returning to is essentially a human hand, made of human meat, that has some robot trappings draw onto it.
But Robo is a fundamentally human character. So I guess that's alright.

Hmm.... I'd say they're just fine, but if you want a change and are strapped for ideas, maybe you could look at other artists' robots' hands for inspiration. Samurai Jack comes to mind first - specifically, the seven killer basket robots that Jack defeats with the help of their scientist creator and a super-powered robo-arm.

I am astonished at the absence of a "thumbs up" in here.

looks robo-y to me. I feel you pain with mech. Soon as I even think about drawing something techy, my brain shuts down.
