After my border collie spurt, I once again return to my conclusion that my favourite breeds of dog don't get enough love.For those of you who love your shepherds and your retrievers and your huskies, kudos to you! It must be great to fancy a breed that is so beloved by the world and has such a large following in art as well.
...but, you can keep 'em. Here's my own celebration of the dogs I love, private unless someone wants to join me. You'll be more than welcome

I dunno if I have any partidular favourite group of dogs xD probably the hounds as a whole, since I love bassets and beagles, and of course borzoi, whippets, salukis, pharoahs... yea.. :3

The greyhound family will probably always be my favourites. Danes, Basenjis and Rhodies are cool in themselves, but they just don't seem to be in the same family somehow, even though they hunt by sight and lure course and all.

About Basenji's, I thought they were sighthounds to but I looked in a book and it said how it was a primitave african dog *shrugs* But it does make sense what you said about the spinoff (he he Rhodies are gorgeous) But thanx for that pic

I think they all sprang from the same evolutionary tree, because the greyhounds apparently originated in Egypt, which really isn't too far from Africa. Basenjis aren't what I call -true- sighthounds as they can hunt with their noses too, so they're half sight- and half scenthound. But as you see they can do a fair job of running after a lure, as can Rhodies, though -they- obviously deviate from the classic greyhound physique (though I do think Rhodies are beautiful dogs in themselves)

Yay! I want a sighthound sooo bad, but space here is limited and I want a big borzoi or a greyhound. My mini doxie had a borzoi's roman nose, so she keeps me occupied.

all sighthounds are absolutly the best! Great example would be at WAGS walk last year. All the dogs were going crazy! Barking, yelping, tugging at their leashes...
Every single sighthound was standing calmly and quietly waiting for the walk to begin.

Great Danes are sighthounds? o.O I don't think so. Rhodies and Basenjis are considered sighthounds in a loose sense, but I don't think GDs are. At least, I've never seen anything that listed them as sighthounds anywhere.

You have to realize, my dog was a rottweiler mastiff. Him showing his eyes at ALL beneath those wrinkles was a pretty exceptional day. ^^

Heehee.. yeah, they're all called the sighthounds, because they use their eyes to hunt for prey, instead of their noses like the scenthounds do. That's why their instinct is to chase and why they're built for speed, so they can make a quick chase and kill. They're built like cheetahs. And they actually run more like cats than dogs.
