Matthew grew up watching his poor father being tormented and attacked almost on a daily basis by Stanley Lighthammer and Kai Wavedown, simply to ensure his silence about the affair. As Mattew grew up, he began to try fighting the two adults off. Usually, Stanly would pick him up and throw him in the closet, putting a chair in front of it so Matthew couldn't interfere. Eventually though, Kai got fed up with the kid's interfering and began tying Matthew to the chair and making him watch the attack if he tried protecting his father. Eventually, Matthew grew old enough to fight back ... and at that point, the attackers left them alone.
