While he was speaking with them, a woman went up to Hiro's driver."Excuse me!" She said in a delicate voice.
"Please, ma'am. The footplate is off limits to passengers!" Hiro's driver told her. The woman ignored him and climbed up the ladder to his footplate anyway.
"I just want to say that your engine's costume is offensive to Asians and perpetuates harmful stereotypes!" She said.
"Hiro is a Japanese engine!" Hiro's driver "If you look at his builder's plate it says 'Kawasaki Heavy Industries Rolling Stock Company, written in Kanji. He's literally Japanese! And, according to your logic, wouldn't the Japanese be appropriating our culture since the British invented railways and steam locomotives?"
"I don't like your tone! I'm going to complain to Sir Topham Hatt." The woman complained.
"By all means, do that, now get off my engine!" Hiro's engine said, raising his voice slightly.
"Mom, please stop! We're going to be late!" Her children begged, upset that she had made Hiro's driver yell at their mother. The children were dressed in their own costumes of a soldier and a pirate, waiting to board the train like many more families with children, or adults who were still young at heart. The oldest, a boy no older than thirteen dressed as a pirate, went up to Hiro and whispered, "I like your costume. I think it's sugoi!" Hiro smiled and replied to the boy's energy
"Arigatou gozaimasu." Before the boy quickly ran to board the coaches with his siblings.
