The Go Anywhere Boat

When Sam and Monkey discovered it, sat in the desert, the Go Anywhere Boat hadn't been anywhere else for years. They hopped aboard but found no-one below deck apart from a dozy ferret nestled in some blankets.They were about to leave when, curious, Monkey pushed hard at the giant tap at the bow of the boat, spinning the thread. The boat gushed to life.
A torrent of water flowed from the tap, cutting a channel into the desert and quickly pooling around the boat. Up and up the water rose and the Go Anywhere Boat was soon bobbing in the waves. A cheery little kick from its legs and they began to move forwards.
With the sun shining over the water and the cries of seagulls far in the distance, Sam and Monkey settled down on board the boat, happily on their way to Anywhere.

I mainly use two brushes, a texture brush and a regular soft round brush. Start off with the shadow colour using the texture brush, working from a large size brush down to a small one as you build it up. I do the same technique for the highlight layer and use the soft round brush to soften everything down. Hope that helps!

One question the underwater shadow white lines how did you achieve them? Because everytime I try those I can't pull it through.

I do it as a large flat layer in Photoshop and then distort it to get the perspective. This one is two layers at different transparencies/blend modes. Hope that helps a bit

I assume that you paint a white net and then you distort it. I think that's what you said but I'm curious. The shape of the net do you try it to remain square or round?

Yep, I start with a net, really basic, two colours, jagged lines like a Gaudi mosaic; avoid it all being really square or you will get kind of square looking waves Apply a glass distortion filter to it and you'll get a nice, smooth, rippling net. Feel free to then adjust/add details before you transform for the perspective.
