Here are some lost files salvaged from a defunct and ancient computer.(I'm serious about that. This pic KILLED my laptop. And the fact that the RAM has kerploded, leaving me with a machine that can only handle saving one photoshop layer at a time and text only if i'm lucky, is why it's -really- not as good as it should be D: )
...anyway. Yeah. Wouldn't normally do something like this, I'm not usally -quite- this anal and obsessive about fan stuff... but I just fancied getting the anatomy book out and practising drawing a skeleton. That plus I have a lot of worldbuilding ideas hanging about doing nothing and thought it'd be nice to present them as some of Gerald's blueprinty things.
So here's me taking Shadow and going nuts
Text should just about be readable (is on this pc anyway) but I'm not expecting anyone to plough through it all XD there's a quite a few fanfiction hints in there if anyone's really interested in reading it. Not essential though XD
Apparently ARK runs on Windows. <.<'

Wow. Lots of interesting info in there. Some is similar to what I theorize about his origins
And I like the fact that you incorporated -as someone else mentioned earlier- the logo of his game onto his hands and feet. Very nice.

Jesus. You have a gift, seriously. This is amazing. All those details, the anatomy. So many fun little gags in there too, like hoping Shadow won't become dependant on the shoes, the logo of ShTH being on his hands under his gloves, and the sly implications you are making with that spinal implant. XD This is just incredible.

You're very talented and skilled at filling in gaps to tell how and 'what.' I'm impressed. :>
You have an extreme imagination as well. I've always tried to do things like this; taking these characters and coming up with fake-but-believable backstories. But mine never turned out right.
I've also seen a lot of things like this on DEV on Shadow, but this one has got to be my favorite.
Maybe you should do one on Silver? It'd be cool seeing how you explained how his gold glovebands worked.

That's certainly quite a pageful of information, there.
That's some interesting ideas on the how and why's of Shadow's anatomy. Makes reasonable sounding sci-fi sense too. For whatever that's worth.
Nah, I mean it. S'good stuff.
Also, I need to take some notes. This pretty much covers the styling I need/want to adopt if I ever get around to drawing the extended variations of him I use. He has a neck. I find that an important feature to have. ^^
Also, I like the way the red stripes on the limbs coil into the Black Arms shape, especially. I'd been wondering how the hell those should work past the glove-line. That kinda makes sense, in it's own weird way. X)
Though now on closer look: Is that just very dark bare skin on the underside of his hands and feet, or off-colour fur? Or shading?

Holy SHIT, Thalia! Talk about everything anyone needs to know about Shadow, neh? XD I'm going to guess 9.1 is either Sonic, Silver or Mephiles. I'm going to stand by my opinion on Sonic being slightly unstable and say it's him *shot*
I LOVE how you draw Mobians how YOU see them, instead of the usual "hey it's SEGA, no artistic license to take whatsoever" style. He just fucking looks AWESOME, end of story!

Real hedgehogs don't have bones in their quills, they're basically just thick hairs. If you look at the way Sonic characters' spikes move in the games, they seem to be blowing about in the wind... so I see them as just an extreme hairdo XD

I always figured ARK run on Apple... Anyway, really nice piece! The failed expirements make a lot of sense. Strangely gives me a Mewtwo pokemon feel. I wonder if I ever connected Shadow with Mewtwo previously... Is 9.1 and 9.2 both hedgehogs, or is it a reference to Bio-Lizard? Curious. I'm guessing it's a fan fic Shadow. I like the ideas here that explain how and why Shadow is immortal. It somehow makes him coming back from the grave at the end of SA2 and beginning of SH somehow not as cheap.

Anyway, reminds me of a comic I failed to attempt once about theorizing Sonic being an early model or otherwise an attempt of Eggman's to follow in his grandfather's foot steps. I just saw too many similarities and Sonic's speed has never officially been explained. Well, then again in Sonic Labrynth it might possibly hint that the shoes were enhanced with Chaos energy since Eggman had to steal and replace his shoes with shoes cursed with negative Chaos energy ... hmm, I'm wrong... He'd just steal the shoes... Oh, sorry for babbling. Stuff I theorized a long time ago.

Oh, wait, let me make a correction: I forgot that Fleetway canon already had one previously sane doctor Kintobor gift Sonic with his speed. Pretty cool origin to this day, too!

Weird. From the looks of the picture you did it seemed to disagree with Fleetway canon... Anyway, I'm not certain if it is true or not, but it was stated in some magazine (Nintendo Power, I think) that Sonic and Eggman's secret past would be revealed in the upcoming Sonic rpg "Sonic Chronicles" for the DS. I'm not certain, but it'd be awesome if the origin of his speed and apparent ability to not break bones when tripping at 700 mph (that part was a joke) were finally to be revealed, even if it meant being a creation of Dr. Robotnik. Quite honestly the reason I make that connection is because it makes sense to me, but this probably won't be what the game will end up revealing - if anything at all. Expect angry fans and cartoonists trying to fit it into Fleetway and Archie canon without success.

I pretty much treat the game and Fleetway canon as completely separate things, now, just picking out the parts of the games that I like and can fit in. If Chronicles reveals his backstory- which I doubt will be the STC one if they do- I won't be that upset myself, I'll just treat it as alternate universe.
I definately go by the STC theory about Sonic's origins though. I've just given it a bit of my own spin- Sonic was never completely normal even before he turned blue after all, and his family was never seen or mentioned... *hinthint*

Yeah, that's one reason why I thought the same concerning a connected past with Shadow, although none of the other characters' families are really mentioned in the games (the question of Knuckles' origin only explained by the Archie and Fleetway/STC-O comic continuims), and since it seems to me as if most people do not view it strange that non-anthropomorphic real animals do not keep "in touch" with their relatives (most animals, anyway), maybe this is what keeps some people from really thinking about that in anthropomorphic fiction such as Sonic? Anyway, I'm hoping for the Sonic universe to expand, but hopefully in ways we can stomach. Have we ever talked about Sonic as a werewolf? Weird, but mostly because it strays from what we're used to. Because it's on my mind, I noticed in the games and various comics that Echidna are, yes, almost extinct or supposedly endangered (Archie Universe seems to no longer have this problem), but has anyone really noticed that Hedgehogs seem to be ... missing? Sonic doesn't really run into many of his own kind, except for official game characters that are hedgehogs and in Archie his parents, uncle, and a Robin Hood parody. Anyway, sorry for babbling. You don't have to answer my pondering. Anyway, I'm also ready for any origin they might have, but it's doubtful they'll do much if anything concerning character back stories - other than Knuckles or Shadow, it seems, of course.

Yeah, I doubt we'll really get much backstory for Sonic in the games, but who knows? A lot of unexpected stuff's been going on lately.
STC does mention Johnny visiting his family once or twice but... I see what you mean. Personally, I just think Mobians mature and become independent from their parents faster than humans, and that hedgehogs simply aren't all that common. Obviously common enough for the species to survive, but not so much that you'd bump into lots of them on the street.
I quite like the werewolf idea, but I think I'll wait until I play the game before I try to figure out how he fits in.

Yeah, I admit I'm more accepting of the werewolf idea than I was before, but ... eh, I'll have to wait to find out as well. I'm sad that the Wii version's levels are going to be different than the other platforms' levels, but oh well. I heard they were making a sequel of Secret Rings as well which involved Sonic being sucked into another book, this time one about King Arthur, and the Wii-mote is used to swing Sonic's new sword... I haven't found proof that this rumor is true yet, but I guess I'll hit wikipedia and google later. You know, I thought about it, and I'd probably try similar things with some of my characters as well... I guess I hold Sonic to a higher standard for some reason.
