I'm one of those Sonic fans who is, quite unashamedly, very easy to please.
I'd say I was an oldschool fan, having been drawing the little blue git since the early '90s... but I enjoy Sonic Adventure and onwards just as much.
The one thing that annoys me about the Sonic fandom is the division in it. Of course, I'm not talking about everyone. But you do get purists who hate everything after 2001 on principle. 'Newbies' who ignore everything that came before. And the constant conflict between the two, the whining whenever a new game is announced... (seriously, guys? If you're going to assume something is terrible on principle before even playing it, why are you even bothering in the first place? Give things a chance, huh!)
Why? Yes, the newer games have their flaws. But the original ones did, too. Sonic 2 was riddled with glitches, and yet it's still a brilliant game. At the same time, there was a lot wrong with Sonic '06. But did you ever take the time to play it, ignore the flawed parts, and just have fun?
Because at the heart of it, new design or old, it's still Sonic. It's important to remember your roots, but at the same time... why not just judge each on its own particular merits and enjoy it for what it is?
After all, isn't having fun the whole point?

What you said in your description is so true!! I latched on to the Sonic series in the late 90's, so I got the chance to go back and try out the classics (coz the Mega Drive was still being sold in some places) while at the same time, it wouldn't be long before I got my first Dreamcast with a copy of Sonic Adventure (which I loved), and I loved SA2 aswell.
I love the classics, but there are still newer Sonic games I've enjoyed too (from Shadow the Hedgehog to Black Knight), and imo Sonic 06 really wasn't THAT BAD.

I was only five when I found out about Sonic and am 13 now. I love the megadrive stuff as it is a classic game to play and I love the new stuff and all the new things to come. I also love sonic 06, sure there are glitches, but that was because they didn't have as many people working on the game as there should have been. I love all Sonic stuff and this is an instant fave!

Wow, this is great!! I just love the little (and big)differences in the picture, they really look like the have a lot of fun hanging out together! Wonderful coloring, don't think that you're so bad! I can't digitally color for anything. I only have a couple successful digi pics. The thing I love the most about this, I think, would have to be the true feeling of solid proportions. I just get so tired of looking at a sonic that seems to be made of wet, over moldable clay. Also, nice job on the antro Sonic, so many little details, he looks great.

My point exactly there shouldn't be divisions in this because sonic games are about just having fun with a super speedy hedgehog in different beautiful locations. To me it should be no need fro hate between us fans.

1st, what's important. This pic is awesome, i'm not sure if you're an artist who draws for Sonic the Comic Online but if you're not you should (though i think you are).
2nd, Love the Mega Drive II in the bg, would have been cool if it had the Mega-CD II attachment or if the game had a sticker on it but oh well (a 32X would've been cool aswell)
3rd, the Sonic on the floor, what game(s) is he based on? there hasn't been one so realistic yet has there?
4th, i totally agree with you about the sonic games, a lot of people say that the Shadow game is rubbish but i found it fun.
Finally, have you heard of Sonic 4? it seems that they're mixing all the sonic's together, using oldschool badniks and homing attack!

The Sonic on the floor isn't from a game... that's just how I draw him in anthro style. When I write fanfiction that's how I picture him looking.
And yep, I've been following the Sonic 4 announcements... looks like it'll be fun

hate it when people bag the games when they haven't even played them. the only thing i really didn't like in 06 was the plot of Sonic's story and some of the gameplay of his too. Shadow's and Silver's were great. and i'm not a big fan of the older games coz i prefer 3D, but i don't ignore them and i respect those who can play them well.

Sonic 06 had glitches, yea, but come on, why do people put it down that badly if thats the only problem? That game rocks! As do all Sonic games!

Haha, aww! A 'git' is an english expression used to describe a person unliked by the speaker, as it means 'idiot' or 'fool' or just generally an unlikable person.

But these days it's used in a more friendly, ribbing kind of way. For example, I would call my best friend a git if he beat me at Smash Bros... it's a quirky British thing. I'm sure Umbra-rockchick meant it this way too.

I really love how you managed to convey the personalities of classic Sonic and SA Sonic from their facial expressions- the younger Sonic looking cocky as ever and SA Sonic being the laid-back cool dude he's been depicted more as in recent years. And classic Sonic is chubby, I do so miss those days!
I have to say, I agree with your sentiments too. I won't pretend I like 06 but maybe I'd like it more without the loading screens. But younger gamers disregard the old classics as dated and old Sonic fans hate the new stuff for no reason. For example, I thought Shadow's game was pretty good, but it seems I'm in the minority there! Maybe I'm a fanboy (hell, I know I am!) but I'm always willing to forgive Sonic's transgressions and play whatever Sega send my way. There are good and bad points to every Sonic game.
Except Heroes which is just terrible.

(got to say I agree with you about Heroes. The best part about it was that it brought back Shadow and Espio, and I have to admit I have a soft spot for Omega <.< but the three-way control system made it near unplayable for me. Still, I gave it a chance- it's a pretty enough game and I enjoyed what little plot there was... it's just a shame about the irritating gameplay and wierdly rubbery looking character models.)
