Description
Darkness lingered far overhead of Ice Empire, but it wasn't the ordinary darkness that came with night, no not at all. Each rumble from above said so. The clouds that been brewing for days now released their weight in forms of buckets upon buckets of water. With each roar of thunder the rain angrily struck the earth beneath it.
It almost seemed that Thor and Frey were battling for dominance. Or atleast that's what the young Zaatar though as he watched the storm rage on from the nursery. Soon he reminded himself, soon he wouldn't have to spend his nights here anymore. He would become an apprentice! He and Pandora, by the gods he was so excited.
Yet for now he focused his crimson gaze on the grey skies imagining an epic battle between the nordic gods to pass the time he should be sleeping. For some reason he just couldn't..It was late and he spent the day full of playing and wrestling with the boys then came home to run amuck with Pandora. He should be out like a light and yet he was wide awake. Closing his eyes he started a hushed hum. A familiar one his mother would sing to him when he couldn't fall asleep.
Þat mælti mín móðir, at mér skyldi kaupa...
Opening his eyes he saw a familiar blur in the cloaked in the rain. Now fully at attention he sat up craning his neck double checking his eyes weren't playing tricks on him. And they weren't, it was Kraken! What was he doing out so late? Well there only one way to find out...
Not many knew just yet. The whole empire knew of the argument and the fact that Naga harmed Griffon. But not many knew that Naga had not come home yet. It had been almost a week since Naga left. And he wasn’t coming back. Kraken thought angrily.
His brother. One of his best friends. Was gone. He wasn’t coming back. He...he lost it with Griffon. Slashed up his face, and couldn’t handle the consequences! And what’s worse!? Mama was having to take the punishment! Having to pay for what his stupid brother did!
Kraken laid in the apprentice den, growling to himself. Finally he got to his paws and padded out. He needed to be alone.
The moment he was out, he was growling again. “Stupid Naga!” He snarled, he claws digging into the dirt. “Why did you have to leave! Couldn’t be a man and own up to what you did! Mama thinks your coming back! She keeps hoping! You left her! You left Papa! You left Amaroq! You left Enfield! Yo-you left me!” He snarled, as tears began to stream down his face.
Putting his stalking practice to use. He carefully tracked his older empire mate. He kept his distance but over the roar of the mighty storm he could hear Kraken's voice. What he was saying however he couldn't make out, but he seemed to angry and maybe...Sad? Now that he thought of it he remembered Einfield saying something about their brother. Could that be why Kraken was acting so strange? Zaatar pondered silently.
Finally Kraken came to a stop and in response Zaatar fell to his stomach. Ears pricked and his sharp crimson gaze set on the apprentice.
“Stupid Naga! Why did you have to leave! Couldn’t be a man and own up to what you did! Mama thinks your coming back! She keeps hoping! You left her! You left Papa! You left Amaroq! You left Enfield! Yo-you left me!”
The normally obnoxiously rambunctious cub stayed eerily still. While any other time he was yelling about how great and powerful he was or cursing in norse now he was dead silent. He'd never heard his friend like this before and it chilled him to the bone. What did Naga even do? Hesitantly the red cub cleared the distance between them yet not all the way. Keep a good few feet to part them Zaatar gawked at the hunched over leopon. Finally for what seemed like hours but was not even a minute the younger hybrid found his voice again.
"K-Kraken?"
Kraken roared again as a roll of thunder crashed through the sky. The roar was full of anguish, as tears pooled down his different colored cheeks. He felt as though his heart was being ripped from his chest.
"Damn it Naga! I want you to come home! Why did you have to leave!!"
"K-Kraken?"
Kraken felt his tears slow slightly, as he tried to force himself from sobbing. He turned his blood shot blue eyes towards Zaatar. He snarled at the cub. "Leave me alone, Zaatar!" He snarled. He had never snapped at the cub before like this.
Zaatar was no stranger to being yelled at. Not one bit. The little troublemaker was scolded nearly daily for his hijinks and the red cub would take would boredly sit through it. In one ear and out the other. But this time it struck him to his core, rattling his bones. Kraken never yelled at him before.
Lowering his head uncharacteristically, he took a step back reading to turn swiftly on his heel and run back to camp but he didn't. Kraken's eyes were redder then his own now. Frozen in the rain, his double pelt soaked he just continued to stare wide eyed at the older feline, his expression twisted into one of fear and surprise.
Seeing the cub frozen, Kraken craned his body towards Zaatar. A painful sob ripped out of the leopon when he tried to roar at the cub. “I-I said to leave me alone, Zaatar! That means leave! Don’t just stand frozen! Leave. Me. ALONE!” The last word ripped out of Kraken, as well as another sob. Without a second word, Kraken turned back to hunch over. Now that one sob had managed to rip through him, they didn’t stop. Though he sobbed, he had a snarl planted on his face, and his claws dug into the soft dirt. His body shook from the force of the sobs, and he hoped that Zaatar had listened for once.
Kraken told him to run, and he almost did. Turning on his heels so fast he almost slipped on the wet ground as he began to scurry back to
where he came. Back to camp where it was warm and dry, the storm's roars muffled, but he stopped. Stopped dead in his tracks.
at mér skyldi kaupa fley ok fagrar árar
Slower then the cub had probably ever moved before, he looked over his shoulder at his older friend and found himself behind him again this time closer. With utmost hesitance he was now right on the leopon and with a sharp breath Zaatar acted. He headbutted the apprentice. Very gently. His forehead pressed against the soaked hybrid's back. "I miss somebody too..."
Kraken almost snarled again when he felt a head bump his back. His claws dug deeper into the wet dirt, a harsh sob escaping him as the cub spoke. “Naga…” He growled after a few moments. “Naga is gone.” He started shaking again from the force of the sobs. “He’s gone, and he’s never coming back.” He sobbed out to Zaatar.
In a single motion, he spun around and grabbed the cub. He pulled the younger male into a tight embrace, knowing full well how the cub missed someone. He never knew who it was, but Kraken had his guesses. “I’m sorry, Zaatar.” He cried. “I didn’t mean to snap at cha.”
Zaatar only smiled, yet this smile was different than any before. It wasn't deviously plotting or mischievous no was it one that feigned
innocence to get him out of trouble, no, this was a real genuine smile.

I keep coming back to look at this and I really am saddened seeing that chaos maker who always smiling and being a cheeking jerk, looking like that... falls into the void of pain and sympathy to the young lil brat
