I love Dinosaur Revolution! It's (probably) the only dinosaur show that I've seen where I haven't found any dromaeosaurid anatomical inaccuracies to complain about! Great job!

I do not remember any Pyroraptors from Dinosaur Revolution. I do, however, remember one from another show called Dinosaur Planet (said raptor was called Pod and got swept up by a tsunami and dumped on an island of dwarves).

This is awesome I saw this Dinosaur Revolution and they made some great progress! I read that these models were based off of Velociraptor. osmolskae instead of Velociraptor. mongoliensis.

What is the point of flight feathers on an animal who can't fly? That would be as helpful as a human having a tail made of limp skin... It would just get stuck in things.
Very nice model though either way.

Velociraptor's "wings" are based on special marks on the forearm bones which shows that there were quite big feathers. Wings can be used for different purposes. Not only for flight. For example they can be used as a "rudder" during the running or in the "mating season". As for the protofeathers, they were found on different dinosaur groups.

It's because they were used for insulation and most likely a form of gaining speed and using agility. They may have even used feathered limbs as windbreaks when turning to turn on a dime.

My previous question was stupid, it's obvious that you've participated in documentaries. And visiting your gallery a bit longer before commenting would have confirmed it. Sorry for having asked the obvious
And feathers ! yeah ! More than a lizard not a bird yet. It is so interesting!
So I assume that you work often with dinosaur's specialists. Do you think some tyrannosaurs had feathers?

Swordlord3d In reply to Naa- [2012-03-30 15:33:20 +0000 UTC]
I don't think that big Tyrannosaurs had feathers. Moreover, there are some marks of their scales.

funny. )))) Ceratopsians, Thyreophora, Sauropods and Ornithopods are not dinosaurs? Or maybe Carnotaurus isn't dinosaur too? Very original point. )).

chickens evolved after dinosaurs tho, there's no fossils of chickens in the Mesozoic. That's like saying that we evolved from modern day chimpanzees, which we didn't.

Not the adults but some documentaries suggest that the young Tyrannosaurs may have had some. But I don't know where researchers are currently in their assumptions ^^

Dinosaurs are in fact warm-blooded reptiles - overgrown lizards that could move with the agility of a bird

Because dinosaurs have nothing to do with lizards.

Dinosaurs are archosaurs while lizards are squamates.

TheBattyCrow In reply to acepredator [2014-09-23 16:25:18 +0000 UTC]
The word sauros comes from the Greek word for lizard. Ergo, dinosaurs are lizards. I didn't say they were true lizards, but they are indeed related.

But names are irrelevant.
We named the bird of prey Falconiformes after falcons-turns out falcons are not birds of prey.

TheBattyCrow In reply to acepredator [2014-09-23 16:35:03 +0000 UTC]
What do you mean names are irrelevant? Names might not be 100% totally accurate, but they are in no way irrelevant.
Then what exactly is the falconiformes family? They have a hooked beak, razor talons, and prey on other birds. Sounds like the correct cirteria. The only difference would be the wings.

acepredator In reply to TheBattyCrow [2014-09-23 17:40:47 +0000 UTC]
Falcons are genetically closer to parrots, terror birds, and sparrows
π: 0 β©: 1
TheBattyCrow In reply to acepredator [2014-09-23 20:28:49 +0000 UTC]
And yet parrots could essentially be considered a bird of prey since they tend to have sharp talons and have big hooked beaks; if we're going by what they look like.
