I'd definitely prefer this if it had a flat/plain background

You're definitely right. This is just random photo of course, but now when I add blur, it looks much better (especially bottom part, because grungy piece of road doesn't look good in submitted version). Thank you for comment, Man ;].

Hmmm. Part of current content wouldn't be visible and I think thatΒ some scrollbar/arrows on the right side would solve this. I didn't consider RWD, because it's just training design

I think most of the info here would be able to be condensed into a hidden side menu, so the top and left would fill a hidden left side menu, then the right could be put in a full width single column, for tablets dual columns or possibly adding the random sizes in dual columns would work
