HUuuh, the confrontation everybody was waiting for.... not.

There is a lot of things going on here and all of them are a little bit in shock, so they may seem a little bit out of character, but, isn't that what stress do to people?

As I stated before, Gaster kind of didn't expect to find all of them in one place, so he has a lot to wrap his head around at the moment:
There are two groups of people who know him, but he acts in a totally different manner while with Asgore and Alphys and while with the bros. Now, it seems that Asgore and Alphys didn't quite catch yet what is going on with two little skeletons, but the odds they talked to them and the boys told them too much are... dangerously high.
(But shouldn't he know that they won't understand each other? - you may ask.
How would he know, if there is probably no good data about skeletons who's inborn for isn't a cypher but were isolated growing up in an exclusively cypher-speaking society? - I respond.)

Anyway, he must not show Asgore and Alphys that it is anything more suspicious than they already think it is. And he low-key doesn't want them to notice his cold and studied pose towards the k̶i̶d̶s̶ brothers, but he doesn't want to start acting artificially affectionate (the old habit of denying them being children seems to be too far gone now though).
At the same time he must not show the subjects how freaked out and on the egde he is now. Especially that they can understand him perfectly. And while he technically could just sign and not talk, I suppose Alphys and Asgore would find it unusual, so not an option, he doesn't want it any more weird than it already is.

That was a wise excuse to buy yourself a little bit more time for making up good excuses... I guess.
