Description "Beware the lights in the dark, for some may not be fellow travelers."

Species: Venator

Locations: Various

Common Names: Hunter, Death Lure, Shinies etc.

Sub-Species: Greater Venator, Venatrius, Venator Rex

Info:

Diet/Hunting: The Venator are known for their incredible speed, their pack mentality, and their ability to lure prey, all of which lead to the two general tactics a Venator will use to catch it's prey.

1) The Venator pack will surround or confuse the target before the pack leader hops onto the creature. From here the other Venators will attack the creature from various angles until it dies. The pack then takes turns getting their share of the meal by liquefying the target with their saliva, and then lapping up the remains.

2) A lone Venator generally has a different tactic, a lure. The two tentacles ending in bulbs that protrude from the Venator's back are actually fluorescent orbs that glow a bright blue in the darkness. The mesmerizing effect of the orbs, combined with the movement of the tentacles, lures in prey, which is promptly killed and devoured.

Size/Weight: 4' 0'' ~100 lbs.

Social: Venators are almost always found in packs, although there are cases of lone wolves. Venator packs have been observed to be very social groups, often chattering away and playing together. They are caring parents, raising their babies from the moment the youngling is born, and allowing the babies get the first pick from a meal. Venators generally communicate through soft and quick chattering noises that sound almost like a chirping bird. But an angry Venator, or one that is attempting to communicate from a large distance, will unleash a high pitched screeching noise that can be heard for miles.

Venator's bulbs are also used in communication, as well as in mating. For communication the bulbs will glow at various shades to indicate either the Venator's current emotion or to be used as a signal for danger, or for when to attack. In mating, the bulbs glow as bright as possible to attract nearby females, the brightest bulb wins the female's attention.

On a side note, if a Venator is raised by a human from birth, it is possible to own it as a pet.
