Description
"Their role is very important to nature, yet oh so detrimental to our efforts."The Spide Fly, more commonly known as the Sap Sucker, is a large insect found in the Southlands and Africana. These insects are found zooming through the air at incredible speeds, flying from plant to plant, pollinating them. But not just any plant, the Sap Suckers only pollinate the Felusian Life Plant. This plant has the ability to prolong the life of any who drink from it. But there are a few problems. The first of which is the Sap Suckers themselves. Females are highly territorial, and will attack any other species that enters the grove. The second is the Felusian Man Trap (More on that later.)
Sap Suckers actually make their home in the grove or field that houses the Life Plant, and their groups can number into the hundreds. Sap Suckers can be lured away, but generally return after they fly a certain distance away. A female normally has a large group of males to pick from when it comes to mating time, this is because the female normally kills the male afterwards.
Various Facts:
- Sap Suckers have tough armor, but it can be penetrated with decent enough weapons.
- Sap Suckers have long tongues they use to extract pollen, minerals and sap.
- They have long sharp legs they use to defend themselves as well as to keep themselves lodged to a tree when sleeping.
- Males can reach lengths of 5 feet with 10 foot wingspans on each wingset while females can reach 10 feet long and have 17 foot wingspans. Males can weigh 50 lbs with females at 110 lbs.
- Males can live for 10 years while females can live for 30.
- The odd sacs on the sides of the Sap Flies are used for storing excess food. although the females sacs can hold some of the toxins they use in their stings. These can also be inflated for intimidation tactics.
- Females, unlike males, have large stingers on the end of their thorax, this can be used to deliver deadly stings.
