The Tormented are sad, twisted individuals unique to the nightmare realms of 99 and its various offshoots. These tortured souls were once the various sapient species that were put through the horrors of 99, with many of them having been previously slain victims patched together over and over again, doomed to never truly die. Suffice to say, such torments have left the Tormented as little more than shells of their former self, driven by violence and a need to survive. Countless numbers of them exist throughout all the possible versions of 99 running at any given time, with their kind always being present when it comes time for 99 to commence once more.
