... dammit, why can't I ever just do a straight-up happy-fluffy fanart for these two?!?!
There are many ways to interpret this, but I just have to throw this out there - Fakir would make one smoking hot silver fox, Y/Y?

I... didn't go the happy route at all. Kinda like Titanic, Ahiru remained a duck and died due to the short lifespan of a duck, Fakir went on with his life, married and had children, but kept one of her feathers. That is so tragic and beautiful, I mean Fakir's expression on the last panel is so warm and sad-looking noo ;___;

Yeah, that's basically how it plays in my head, but I also like the "happily ever after" of fairytales if they're hard-fought and won, which certainly applies to Ahiru and Fakir!

It's meant to be open to interpretation, but yeah, I totally can get why you could interpret it that way. I tend to read it either as bittersweet or tragic, depending on my mood.

I basically let this be open to interpretation - you can go the happy route, that Ahiru returned to being human, married Fakir, had children, but passed away before this... or, that she never came back... or she did, but died shortly afterwards... or any mix of the above. I'm glad that most people choose the happiest possibility, but given the series, I'm always tempted to delve into the most tragic outcomes for these two. I totally get where Drosslemeyer was coming from!
