Description Series: Let's Cook! Cooking Tutorials

Lesson 1: Gyouza - Part 1: Preparation

This is a project idea I've been playing with for about a year, mostly inspired by my younger cousins asking me to teach them my grandmother's gyouza recipe. It's fairly detailed, mainly because the technique gets pretty complex (especially in Part 2!), but also because I couldn't help drawing silliness.

WE ARE SHOUTING BECAUSE THEY ARE SO TASTY AND THEY DESERVE THE ENTHUSIASM OF SHOUTING!

(Also, psst, if you are in an artsy mood and don't know what to do you can always make more food tutorials )

i love chopping things. we have what u'd call a "manual food processor" you have to rotate the top. and lemme tell you, with cabbage, it is EXTREMELY hard. D:

Just the sound of it is rather intimidating.

you know when you hace a manual drill, and you turn it around and around? same thing, only there's aplastic nob thing at the top, and a blade inside the container.

Holy crap, my grandma had one of those things - and she made me turn it when she was cooking! I must have repressed the memory or something.

the last lineart only panel I'm this mostly for that big grin in the middle

seriously, cooking books in this style would sell, I'm very visual myself and this would make my life easier

sylvacoer In reply to vick330 [2009-07-07 15:28:11 +0000 UTC]

ditto, which is why i drew it this way. i remember having an old, old kid's cookbook when i was about 7 that had all these wonderful picture in it on how to make stuff like pretzels, so this is a bit of an homage to it.

(that middle panel made me giggle inappropriately while i drew it. the people on the plane must have thought I was off my meds or something)

it's possilbe to leave our carrots and chestnuts, but the ginger is a fairly key spice.

Question (I'm planning to make gyouza with a friend before school starts so I need to know before we make it) Do you add both meats at the same time and mix them together, or is it an either or for whichever meat you prefer?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

sylvacoer In reply to stormbringer246 [2009-08-19 17:34:05 +0000 UTC]

both meats at the same time and mix them together - if you're going to cook the meat before you add it to the mix, it's generally a good idea to cook the sausage first so you can use some of the leftover oil to flavor the other meat. :3

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

stormbringer246 In reply to sylvacoer [2009-08-21 05:59:10 +0000 UTC]

Okay, secondly, on the instructions you have two types of Oil. I assume you use the veggie oil for the cooking on the pan, but do you mix the sesame oil with the meat and veggies?
