Scene from Tales of the Spirit World: Fall of the Blue Spirit my Avatar-verse legends project. Part VIII. Of Yǎn-sui and Jiān: Searching can be found here.---
"...Yǎn-sui stared at her, impossibly statue-still in the little boat upon the river, ghost-white and night-black against the deepening indigo of sky and water. She had been worried… no! She only pretended to be worried about him! And yet, when he had defied her, been belligerent, then patronizing… instead of bringing him to heel as those of her kind would have, she had practically begged that he not force her to take that route! She desired to be his friend… and impossible, illogical, insane wish, of course… why should any god behave so improperly?"

Jiān's a fun character to write, especially from the point of view of another character, if they're as worldy-wise as Yǎn-sui. He's having a hell of a time trying to understand how she can be the way she is!

I'm so in love with Jian's character design! I love her personality too but that's neither here nor there. More great work from you and I love how well their opposing natures work so well together. Really hit their expressions dead on how I'd imagine them from you writing too! Fave! ^_^

i started writing pretty early on - drawing is a new thing. i only want to get good enough to tell a decent story through pictures.

As for this picture, I really love a lot of things about it; the shape of Jian's profile came out really well, and the colors on the characters as well as the water look absolutely fantastic. Great job!

thanks! Jian has several meanings, depending on the character - i went with the one for "cleanse" that also happens to be a name of a river in China. *whistles innocently*

Actually, yan-sui doesn't like her. he's starting to understand her, but he still thinks she's a fool for being a goddess who cares so much about humans that she takes in a demon to protect them!

oh ouch - the surgery itself is hardly a problem (they give you really fun drugs for it), but the recovery is a pain in the arse.
