Yup that glow-in-the-dark thing they've got going has a variety of uses, but the most commonly known one is to attract prey. It comes over attracted by the lights and then... Well they usually get eaten 
However I recall an animal found that emitted red light, which is technically invisible to animals in the deep sea - rendering its bioluminescence useless in any practical sense. No one knew what it was for, and as deep sea expeditions are so uncommon, it's unlikely we'll ever know its use.

They have subtle bioluminescence :3
But I've seen some artists which really made their netherdrakes glow 
I bet they'd keep their riders awake at night with that glow

I was referring to Pai AyanokΕji who is the "mortal" personality and her Sanjiyan side is Parvati. When Parvati awakens and opens her third eye, usually shit hits the fan ^^
In one of the last episodes - Pai ceases more or less to exist, when a snake demon creature drops from her third eye and releases Parvati's personality.

Hmm a closed third eye? Ooh Koishi Komeji from the Touhou series also closed her third eye X3
The Satori can read minds with their third eye, and Koishi's sister was hated by pretty much everybody because of that, so she closed her third eye so she wouldn't be hated by everyone.
