UPDATE 06/08/13: after six years, we finally have a decent photo and a print!
Rainbow-coloured stellated truncated icosahedron. So many sheets of paper...
I worked out exactly how many squares of each colour I needed, and how it'd tone down in rainbow pattern...etc.
Took ages putting it together as I had a specific order in mind- worth it, though!

WOAH! THAT is awesome! I'm actually making one right now off of nuwen.net/poly.html. Try the other things you can make (out of the same modules) if you want. So far I've made the cube. It's only 6 modules! Fairly easy to make the modules, but also fairly hard to put together. I wish I had 4 hands!!! JK

Haha I don't know if four hands would be more help or hindrance when it came to origami...on my most recent commission, I had to use SO MANY binder clips of varying sizes as I didn't have enough hands >_________>

ohmygosh! this so gooood! just wondering, how did you start assembling the pieces.. I've got all the pieces folded.. just no clue how to put it all together ><

Whoa, this is taking my memory back YEARS now...I started off making a little pentagon of five "peaks" I think. make a few of those then connect them together so that, between each pentagon, there is a hexagon of "peaks". I think.
My strategy when arranging them was that I knew the whole thing would look like a spiky icosahedron (20 faces). Each vertex of the normal icosahedron is the centre of a pentagon of "peaks" and then you just flu up the space in between these vertices!
Tell me if you get anywhere with assembling!

Ahh! We made one of these in geometry class! A much less complicated version, with only 8 points. It took me an hour to make another one and.... this is just madness. In the best of ways, but.... madness..

It wasn't really the folding, I got into a groove once I completly figured out how to do it. It was more the putting it together. I was trying to make an 8 point one and started making a bigger one cuz i couldn't remember how xD I took the one I made in class apart and put it back together to figure it out
And it was, the whole class got on the front page of the school paper.

I basically looked very closely at a football and mimicked it! There are twelve pentagonal faces so I assembled those first, and then you connect them up to form hexagonal faces in between.
