This wasn't really any game in particular, but more of a generalization of when RPGs slow down in pacing to give you a chance to grind.

it is a shame, but there is still plenty of games I haven't played myself from that era, so it's not too bad since I'll eventually get to those games.

It depends on the monster really.
...Also on the Player. You could BOTH be the villain here.

Haha I hunted down the Metal and Liquid slimes with joy in that game, mostly since you can see them on screen for once in a DQ game

A moment of silence for all of the slimes and goblins out there that fell to the blades of dwarfs and wizards.
YOU SHALL NOT BE FORGOTTEN!

The fanfare dishonorably ruined everyone's moment of silence.

They do in certain games, and have alot of exp. points. That's why they are worth hunting down.

oh yeah, the slimes, or jellie blobs. I got bored of Maplestory and now I'm busy. It does raise the point. Why can't monsters have some pity?

Some monsters do in some games, like if they are domesticated in some of the DQ games or such... but yeah most of the time I fight them I wonder "gee I'm invading there land and i'm slaughtering them all, and I'm the hero in this game."

Thanks, Currently I'm playing the Dark Spire (again, I guess I like the abuse),SRW@3 (even if i can't read kanji, i love the battle system) and the new Etrian Odyssey game (the 3rd one that came out a few weeks ago) very time consuming game Etrian is, but fun. Very grind heavy if I want to even live

TitanWarrior In reply to SynDuo [2010-10-29 01:42:26 +0000 UTC]
I have Etrian Odyssey 2 and I can't even get far in it at all. That RPG is not made for beginners. You like the Super Robot Wars series? Awesomeness!
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SynDuo In reply to TitanWarrior [2010-10-29 01:47:05 +0000 UTC]
Etrian is grind heavy, but the new one balances it all out with the prince/princess class , healing after every battle ability. So it's alot more friendly to those that never got into it due to difficulty
Yes I import each new game for the srw series, i'm really waiting for them to release the new one on ps3 but They are taking there sweet time, i hope it doesn't omit any of the UC gundams... infavor for damn SEED again... Personally I want them to try hard like then did in SRW Z... that would be nice.

It is too bad that the Super Robot Wars series is not popular here in the U.S. Then all of the action figures of all of the robots used in the game would be released here. "Super Robot Wars Gaiden: Masoukishin- The Lord of Elemental" for the SNES is one I highly recommend.

THe language barrier doesn't stop me, I can read a little bit of the Kanji, Also the SNES one, loved that one, it was one of my first way back... I loved the alpha series mostly due to the advances and squad system they implimented in the 2nd game, it was a big step up, also the Tri-Formations in SRW Z, i wonder how much more they will improve the system.

Well to tell you the truth, I only dove into the game series into a little bit, I didn't really like the Super Robot Wars series because it was a Strategy RPG. I'm more of a turn based RPG, Action RPG and a real-time RPG fan.

SynDuo In reply to TitanWarrior [2010-10-29 02:56:28 +0000 UTC]
I love those too, but I'm a fan of the genre, so I always jump from the action to the strategy types all the time. I keep jumping from games of the west and east. I'm just a big fan of rpgs themselves I always tend to play them... despite the language barrier, funny though since when I was in japan I spotted that my favorite old school series (Monster World/Wonderboy) was listed as an RPG. Funny what classifies as a RPG.
LOL I can talk too much about games, let me know when i should stop

That's strange. I can keep going, dude! Have you ever played the old Japanese computer RPGs?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SynDuo In reply to TitanWarrior [2010-10-29 06:01:50 +0000 UTC]
Some, but depends on how old and how Japanese, I use to play the wizardry series up till Japan took over, they really love that series down there, and are the only ones that still make dungeon crawlers with the same formula and evolved on it.
which ones are you refering too?

TitanWarrior In reply to SynDuo [2010-10-29 07:37:43 +0000 UTC]
Well, I am talking about the games made by Falcom, and from some other RPG manufacturers like Glodia, Hummingbird Soft, Right Stuff, and Wolf Team. Those games were made for these Japanese computers:
MSX (various models)
NEC PC-8801
NEC PC-9801
Sharp X1
Famitsu FM-7
Famitsu FM-TOWNS
Sharp X68000

Kinda hard for me to play those games anymore , I use a mac now and don't know a decent emulator.... Unless its all dosbox healthy.
Ah the Sharp X68000 How i miss you, the only thing i have left of that is the port they made of the Castlevania game...

TitanWarrior In reply to SynDuo [2010-10-29 08:26:11 +0000 UTC]
Yes, The Sharp X68000 is and was an awesome computer! Konami has made most of their games on the MSX, but only a handful use the SCC chip.
Well, there is a way you can run Windows Only programs on your Mac.
