Consider this printer, it comes in a kit and you get to put it together and tune it yourself! [link]

From what I've seen these little guys are a blast. A friend of mine and my self are planning to build one using my printer (all the plastic parts) some time this year.

Hey, I don't know if you know me or not, but I'm PK! I printed out some of these same models a little while back. This is really impressive for a non-industrial printer! Keep up the good work!

I do remember! You're the pony that hid in the closet from a rampaging Phoe, right?
Actually, the work you did on those Trixies a while back is kind of what inspired me to try it out on my printer. Aside from a couple lose wires and the purge bin not working right (clear rectangular box in the left hand corner of the last photo) it's been a pretty decent printer.
Thanks for the comment, and also thanks for the painting tips in the email reply.

my printer never purges correctly either. Or, it purges correctly, but it can take up to FOUR HOURS for it to do it. No idea what's up with that.

What kind of printer do you have/have access to if you don't mind me asking? Mine is the duel head BFB 3d Touch.
I have a solution for my purge bin to keep it clean and tidy (if I don't keep an eye on the purge cycle it will potentially drag waste material out of the waste bin and imbed it into the part when it switches between extruders), but it requires me to design and print out a custom part. I guess that's the beauty of having a 3d printer near by, you can whip up replacement parts in no time

OMG this is so cool! I had no idea that making stuff with 3D printers was this much work.

This particular method of 3d printing requires a bit of touching up depending on what you're making.
Some of the high definition printers sold by 3D Systems (parent company to the company that makes my printer) can create stunningly high quality prints with little to no finishing. But yeah, $$Cha-ching!$$
