Description Some tiger / big cat studies I done last night.
Been told to learn and check some anatomy so there you go, one baby step to another!

Then again one of my friends told me that the one on the top is too bulky and looks like a male tiger XD well shit, I guess she's just too manly!

Reffed the first one... like a baws.
The second one it's just how she DOES look like seeing as she's a golden tabby / wild cat mix. ^^

I think it is VERY adorable. and the best one can do to get better is practice and use references...but this IS YOUR style, and I like it for that reason. It's unique!

Going for anatomy? Good job overall, but first thing I notice is that the front paws are far too small!! It looks a lot like they have regular house cat anatomy due to the small paws. Tigers and lions should both have very large paws, especially in the front. The back legs feel relatively ok. The bottom tiger, especially, looks like a house cat.
I'd avoid the fur on the heels. It just looks unnatural (since that's an area with such little fur), or else have it go down the whole foot.
That tail is crazy fluffy for a tiger. It looks like a leopards tail. Tigers have thin, and generally just downward pointing tails (generally they just wag the tip. Only house cats and smaller cats raise their tails above their backs. I understand caricaturing the tail/features, but the further away you get from real anatomy, the harder it will be for it to read as the animal you mean it to)
Ears are really pointed. Make sure to keep them round.
top one reads more as male because of the low hanging belly. The big cats all have large bellies, but males tend to get a sort of belly pouch. You see this on housecats, too. Especially when cartooned, it's a good idea to remove this to make it read feminine.
Head is small, especially in the forehead. Tigers have really huge heads. They're the largest big cat. Make sure you reflect this, even in a female. Due to smaller head, smaller paws, fluffier tail, that is why this reads less tiger to me. It's not bad at all, but they almost look more like ligers. Thick huge forequarters and larger bodies and very few stripes with SO MUCH HAIR.

Good job though! The best thing is to just keep on drawing and studying photos/videos/everything and continue to learn anatomy. I recommend to next time focus less on "style" (note the hair random fur ruffs, etc?) and instead focus on looking at a picture of a tiger in this case and asking yourself what about it reads as tiger? draw that without trying to worry about style. Just have fun, and the style will define itself for the animal! Good job

No offense as I understand you're trying to help... but I quote;

Via "The second one it's just how she DOES look like seeing as she's a golden tabby / wild cat mix"

Btw, I didn't read anywhere that she was trying to do a 100% pure realistic 'tiger' in either version here....

And yes, her awesome style _is_ cartoonistic 'carcaturing' But as I've quoted, her char _is a golden taby & wild _cat_ mix_ As for the 'hind leg fur'? It's part of her personal char's design... I doubt she'd want to make it so natural it wouldn't look like the character she originally designed...

And lastly... I didn't see this pic open for detailed crits and is probably why (I'm guessing) she didn't reply yet..

Not trying to 'yell, 'troll' so or so forth' or 'start a comment 'war/argumant' so I'm gonna politely (as much as I can here) ask if you do (not sayin ya do either) argue etc that we'd continue any conversation via DA notes....

I hate starting (and not meaning to) arguments that practically ruin a certain artists' picture she/he drew for us to see.. <=3

And my sincerest apology for offending you in my comment too! (as I'm sure it's the main 'root' of any argument to one point or another)

So in the end and sorry for my comment and however it'll sound to you over the net <=3
& sorry, also, for any comment 'war' that may happen from my comment ¬¬; ><;;;

I'm just gonna say that I have NO IDEA why you see the need to protect her from criticism? Critique is how artists become better. I never would have gotten to the point I got to if I never allowed critique on my work. That being said, the comment section is an open forum, and I provided my opinion.
I saw that she stated that it was a wildcat mix, but... you know what, if it's based on tiger anatomy, I may as well express how to get the tiger anatomy right.
Then from there, she can choose to ignore and apply wherever necessary !

Anyway, I don't get where you think that I'm trying to ruin the artist's work, because... it's very lovely! I like it, and I actually only reserve critique for works that are good, but I believe can be made even more awesome! On a personal note, I don't think you're doing her any favors by trying to discourage critique. However, if Deni didn't want my comment on the page, she is welcome to hide it. *shrug* I'm not offended at your comment. So, I don't see any reason to start a "war" of sorts Don't take any of this retort negatively.

very cool, i love how youmixed it with you style, i love the cute facially expressions.
i think the paws may be a bit small, compared to the ankle, with big cats the paws are usually larger? i dunno, i'm trying to help. :/

Gorgeous! I'd say less chest, larger, stockier legs and paws. And do tigers lift their heads that high? This is great though and I'm not really one to talk. XD Amazing job!

I think the top one doesn't look much like a tiger. What I noticed right away was the legs and paws, they look really small compared to a tigers, and something looks off with the head and neck (though on the bottom one it looks better).
These are still really nice though, and keep studying anatomy cause you're doing pretty good. <3

Haha big cats are odd things. Felines are seen as more feminine but once you get to big cats, their bulkiness seems to reverse all that. You have to stylize just the right features to make them look feminine. X_X
Honestly both of them looked male at first glance but when I looked again I could see the female traits. It's hard for me in my art because I don't like using the stereotypical eyelashes. Plus I like my character kinda androgynous like animals tend to look anyways.

Also, is it just this pic or are her stripes really that shade? I thought it'd be a little more coppery/golden/orange. xD
