How do you feel about it, Twilight? After all, you're in art school, I don't know how most art-students feel about animu-style, and stuff, but I would assume they don't like it very much.

Ah tough subject to break down..
I see this kind of stuff having its place in modern graphic, cartoon, or narrative arts, especially seeing my drawings are rooted in anime haha.
Teachers and more traditional artists in college tend not to take it seriously though, too many incoming students and fans who draw it without learning the drawing basics such as observation, anatomy, composition, divergent thinking, and modeling to name a few aspects. Its also generally a style too easily emulated without these usual necessities by casual hobbyists and fans alike. Many don't think about it, but there is a big difference between anime styles that were developed thoroughly like any art form and those just made in the style because it looks "kawaii."
Thats the very biased institutionalized viewpoint however. Anime like the graphic novel, cartoons, and modern graphic arts are still infants compared to painting, literature, etc, so they still don't have proper time based evaluation over their impact or influence in many artsy fartsy and casual circles alike.

True, but I find that it's gotten a lot difficult to discern those who draw anime in their own style from "kawaii" anime, and it has been quite unfortunate that the majority choose to go for the "kawaii" stuff because it's always been there (mm, kind of like *KL-chan and *kurot 's style).
Oooo! Interesting take on that! I suppose, in a way, it can be said that anime and cartoons are still infants compared to other areas of art, but after, I think, about 1930s or something until now, educational views would have regarded these works as something with a certain standard of artistic worth/value (can't find the word to describe it XD;; ) than the way it's treated now.
